Basel 2014 Preview: 3 New Watches from Carl F. Bucherer, Speake-Marin, and Ulysse Nardin
As we continue the countdown to Baselworld 2014, we present three more watches making their worldwide debuts at the fair two new perpetual calendar watches from Carl F. Bucherer and Ulysse Nardin and the first-ever chronograph from Britain’s Peter Speake-Marin.Carl F. Bucherer is releasing a limited-edition version of one of its most complicated watches, the Manero ChronoPerpetual, with a new tachymeter-scale bezel. The watch contains Caliber CFB 1904, which integrates a base movement from Vaucher with a module developed exclusively for Carl F. Bucherer. It features the rare combination of a perpetual calendar and flyback chronograph in one timepiece. The new Manero’s complexity is reflected in its dial: the subdial at 12 o’clock indicates both the date and the small running seconds; the one at 6 o’clock shows the day of the week and the chronograph hours counter; and the one at 9 o’clock displays the month and leap years as well as the chronograph minut
My First Grail Watch: Peter Roberts
Welcome back to an original watches-dealer interview series, "My First Grail Watch." In this series, we ask prominent people in the watch industry about the first timepiece that they lusted after. Today, we're speaking with Peter Roberts, who is, well, is hard to pin down in a single sentence, in terms of his relation to the watch industry. He's been in it for four and a half decades, going through many brands in a many capacities. He's also taught horology (teaching some other names well-known to us), writes on watches, and recently created a new version of a watch he first built back in 1970. Since I couldn't pin down his relationship cleanly, let's let the man himself tell us.watches-dealer (ABTW): Who are you and what is your relationship to the watch industry?Peter Roberts (PR): I have been in the industry for 45 years. I have worked for many watch companies over the years including Rolex in Geneva and as Technical Director and Director of Watchmaking for two brands. I taught Horo
What's the standard strap vs short strap diff?
I'm looking for anyone who was had a ROO standard strap and then swap to short strap, to tell me the different in fit? I've got a diver and wear it on the fourth hole from the end. The fifth hole is too tight. I'd like the fourth hole to fit a little tighter. Now, recently another member purchased the new deployant and says with the folding mechanism, the strap fits a little tighter. However, I expressed my desire to Clearwater and they tell me they should fit the same. It seem like it would fit a bit tighter but the experts disagree and since they won't take it back I need to be sure first. So now, I'd like to know if the short strap changes the fit. Of the two straps the long side is the same but the short side is different. I would say I have regular sized wrists, I'm only looking to change the way the watch fits. HAs anyone else encountered this? What did you do to fix you situation? What do you think I could do to fix mine? In my attachments you can see the gap. If I
Patek Calatrava advice
I'm planning on purchasing this 3423. However, I can't find much info on the reference so I'm not sure what a fair price is. I'd appreciate some help on deciding what to offer for the watch.
