Unique Skeletonized Watches By Molnar Fabry: Hands-On And Workshop Visit
The skeletonization of high-end timepieces has long been a viable option for those watch collectors and enthusiasts who seek?a way to?appreciate mechanical movements more thoroughly than a sapphire case back or an "open-heart" dial allow. Michal Molnar and Igor Fabry of Molnar Fabry are two Slovakian certified jewelers who,?bitten by the "watch-bug"?and driven by a developed?passion for fine watches, have?specialized in creating unique, made-to-order timepieces comprised of beautifully and?heavily modified base movements from ETA, Unitas, and others. We were invited by the young duo to visit them at their workshop in Banska?Bystrica, a small town situated in the central?part of the country and?surrounded by the?beautiful Slovakian countryside.Igor Fabry and Michal Molnar in their workshop situated in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia.Skeletonization is the process of carefully removing?structurally non-important material from the?center of major movement parts, namely bridges, cocks, and plates
AP and the new Entourage movie, one in every scene !
Saw the new Entourage movie this weekend. The AP marketing department must have been working overtime on this one because EVERY character of note in the film is wearing an AP. Some even switch pieces throughout the movie. You can get a nice overview of the entire RO and ROO lineup in all metals if one was to watch the movie. I easily spotted 10 different models. It made watching a little more interesting.
Minute Repeater at Sotheby's
Yesterday, an unusual AP Minute repeater went for only 20.000$ plus premium.Anyone has an idea, what it retailed for and how the movement looks like?
Looks brand spankin new!
As most of you know it's been a long road since I sent my watch in for repair to the APSC in Clearwater. Many of you followed the saga and aware of the long story and drama around it. For those of you that didn't read about it, here's a quick and simple drama-free recap: At the beginning of February 2012 I sent my watch to APSC Clearwater and they quoted me a very crazy amount for the service ($4800). After a ton of drama, I asked them to send the piece directly to Le Brassus for a new estimate and potential repair directly in Switzerland. Fast forward to April 2012, I received a decent estimate on the service ($2800) and proceeded to get the service done directly by Le Brassus. My 5402SA is from 1976-1977 and is from the first batch of TT Royal Oak Jumbos ever made. My serial is under 300. We are talking here about a highly collectable and desirable Royal Oak. Due to the age of the watch and multiple owners outside of me, the watch needed a major movement overhaul, a new dial (old dia
Advise needed.....
Can anyone advise me how to submit a request for an extract from Patek's archives? I filled out the request form on their site, and first attempted to email it to the address on the site, however it was returned twice as an unknown address. I then attempted to fax it, also to the number provided by Patek, only to receive a busy signal time and again. Is snail mail the only real option? Thanks.
