Swatch Group's ETA Watch Movement Maker Oversteps: Receives Unlawful Monopoly Probe By Swiss Competition Commission
The Swatch Group is the largest watch maker in the world, with a highly complex vertically integrated manufacturing system with a ton of subsidiary and partner companies, as well as watch brands. The goal has always been for each watch component to be made by a company under the Swatch Group Umbrella. They've become so good, that their purchasing of companies and manufacturing arms makes them the premier maker of parts; especially movements. Swatch purchased ETA from Eterna many years ago, which was one of it's wiser decisions. ETA is the premier maker of fine watch movements in the world. They don't produce the highest volume of movements overall, but certainly the highest volume of fine watch movements. Many brands rely on ETA as a source of movements. There are alternatives, but ETA is really the only place to go for most companies' needs. Last year, ETA announced that it would cease to provide movements to watch companies outside the Swatch Group due to high demand. Many feared the
Christopher Ward C900 Harrison Single Pusher Chronograph Review
Well, we've finally gotten our hands on the much anticipated Christopher Ward C900 Single Pusher Chronograph. This watch was first announced in August, and I found the news so exciting (come on, it's not everyday that a brand bucks the trends of the watch market and brings out an in-house chronograph for just above 3k) that I wrote up a fairly detailed article on it back then. So, to not write the same thing twice and get on with the review, I'll defer you to that article for the meat of this intro. Needless to say, with the C900 the C. Ward brand has once again proven that in the internet age, a watch company can provide quality, innovation and mechanics normally believed to be the province of luxury brands at an affordable price.Case: Stainless SteelMovement: C. Incoming! Finally - A member of "Club ROC"!
It felt like an eternity; in reality it was only on order for about 2 1/2 months. Obtained my first high end watch - the 26331ST (Blue). I am thrilled. I know my pics aren't the quality of some of the folks (Ben!) but I wanted to get the post and then get better at the pics, in different light, macro, etc. A big shout out to my AD in Greenwich, CT. (and thanks to christianj for the referral!). Also thanks to this forum, and all of the thoughts and posts along the way. You all really confirmed my choice in AP! For the longest time I had my eye on an ALS 1815 but I felt to start I wanted a watch that easily worked for dressed up and down - and where sweat wouldn't hurt the band. This watch will be my daily wear for the most part, except for grungy activities!
Royal Oak 15400 Bracelet Sizing
Question for all - when you size the Royal oak bracelet should it be slightly tighter or looser than other watches?Ie when your wrist is flat can you fit say your pinky in the slack? Or slightly less?
Double Incoming - really pleased
Guys, I have been looking at the 5170 for quite some time. Love the manual wind, always been a sucker for Chronographs. Recently I found myself in need of a white metal dress watch. This was enough to push me over the edge, while I love the 5496 & 5396 and there exists other cool references, the chrono makes this so much superior IMO.While I was there I could help myself and had to pick up a little 'beater' too. Not sure it will last that long but I never see them, I know they are tough to find, not 5711 tough but tough nonetheless. Thought it would be a good pick up. I have a goal to get down to five watches, all watches I love. Adding to it makes it tougher but this purchase is truly over due. Now I need to keep finding ways to trim it down or do I just surrender. I seem to be loading up on Patek lately. Really want another AP RG 44. This is tough!Currently - 5170G, 5980R-001, 5711, 5167, RM11 Ti, GMT BLNR, IWC Le Petit Prince - blue dial. I have some nice pieces but how do you t
