The Affordable Observer's Watch
Although the style has been around since the 40’s the past few years have seen a growth in the popularity in the Beobachtungs-Uhren (Nav. B-Uhr or Nav. B) watches. These were worn during WWII by pilots and had some specific guidelines for their design. They had to be large (normally 55mm) as as to be easy to read, and contain luminous paint so as to be legible at night. A large crown was required so as to be operated with gloves and a movement with a hacking seconds hand. The watches from the 1940’s will run you well into the thousands of dollars, well above the budget of many a watchnerd. And the 55mm size makes them prohibitive for most wrist sizes. Fortunately a number of brands have come to our aide and provided a range of options for the watch enthusiast to consider when shopping for a watch in this iconic design.Parnis Pilot Watches$75 – $150 USD47mmAutomatic movement, type variesSource: Parnis WatchStarting on the low end, we have the Parnis brand, straight out
My Favorite Women's Watches From SIHH 2016
Last week we brought you our top picks overall from SIHH, but this week I wanted to share with you my top favorite picks from the women's side. There were plenty of ladies' watches to choose from but not all of them made the cut. Keep reading to see what my favorites were (hint: not all of them are "ladies"). 1. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Dual-Time 39 MM 1 OF 5 I love a good AP Royal Oak. The design is iconic and timeless and they can be worn by both men and women. That is why I have chosen this Royal Oak Dual-Time released at SIHH specifically FOR women. It isn’t necessarily a new watch (actually it was originally released in 1990) but it is new that AP is marketing it for women. The old and faithful automatic caliber 2329/2846 dual-time movement is in a 39 mm steel case with leather strap. Price is $27,700. 2. Cartier Crash In Pink Gold 2 OF 5 Another one of my favorites is also a reproduction of an old watch in a new m
Royal Oak fitment feedback
Hi all, I'm buying my first AP RO and I'm debating between 2 sizes. Here I attached some pictures. I would like to get feedback on which fit is better. I want to use it as both a dress watch and casual watch. It's not about the color, I know I want a stainless steel with black dial. This is just about the size. White dial is 15450, black dial is 15400. Thank you in advance!
Favorite strap pic?
How's about a thread to show your favorite current strap? I know this is tough to decide, and is constantly changing, but please post only one picture of your current favorite and tell the maker. Here's mine....strap is getting broken in nicely..strap is from Micah at Vintager straps.
Alfa Romeo Giulia or Platinum DayDate
The title should say it all. This is totally a midlife crisis purchase for a single guy in the early 50s. I'm sure there are pros and cons for both but unfortunately I can only pick one So what say you all TRF peeps?
