LIP Watches Rediscovered And Rereleased On Watchismo: Iconic Retro Future Cool
Watchismowatches-dealer, the very popular and influential watch website and blog now offers us some very special watches. For a long time, Watchismo was adept at telling you about great watches, but you'd be lucky to find them anywhere. Luckily, you can now find some right there. Watchismo offers timepieces from his personal collection, along with retro cool watches from a variety of makers. My favorite in particular are the LIP watches.LIP watches have been around for over 100 years, but you probably haven't heard much of them. They belong to the design orientated French crowd of watch makers, who always have interesting and artistic offerings. LIP's claim to fame was their clever contracting with popular designers of the day to create watch designs totally unheard of before. At that time during the 1960's and 1970's the world seemed bent on traveling to the future with greater haste by designing everything to be "futuristic." Utilizing new materials such as plastics and other synthet
IN THE SHOP: Eleven New Vintage Watches For Sale, Including A Mint, Full-Set Red Sub, A Grail Amongs
And we're back! Yes, after dropping 12 vintage watches last Wednesday (of which 10 have already sold) we've decided to keep the hits coming with 11 new additions to the H Shop. This time we've found a few blue-chips, as always, like the most amazing Red Submariner you will ever see (complete with every accessory you can ever ask for), the insanely rare and highly sought after solid-gold Heuer Carrera from 1960s (find another, we dare you), and more. Have a glance below for some details and check them all out right here in the HODINKEE Shop. 1970s Red Submariner With Full Boxes, Papers, Hang Tags, And More 1 OF 10 For years, the Red Submariner has been atop the kingdom of non-gilt-dial Submariners, and it has always been a fan-favorite among vintage watch lovers for its single line of red text and immensely useful date window. The Red 1680 remains an all-time classic that readers have actually written in to request, and us being us, we've gone ahead
Blue Dial 15400 - Should I do it?
It would be for a 2018 allocation from a boutique (I'm not sure when it would actually arrive).Do you think I should be able to get a small discount? Would I loose my shirt on it if I sell/trade in the future if I pay list price ($17.8K)?As you all know, it's a beautiful piece ...
Happy Lunar New Year
To folks who are celebrating the Lunar New Year, wishing you a prosperous and healthy Lunar Year of Snake ahead!
Consolidate for 1 ultimate Grail?
I was walking around today in HK and stopped by a grey seller shop here in HK that I use to frequent but hadn't been in for quite some time. BOOM...there it was in the glass window display. A Patek 5970j brand new. The owner told me he has another one that is 99% condition. Price seems to be very attractive and ~$30k below what I've seen advertised by sellers in the states. With the used one being $10k less than the new one. Question I am debating now is whether to trade in a bulk of my collection to obtain this monster! I would need to sell the following to make the numbers work:(1) Rolex WG skydweller(2) Rolex platinum day date 2(3) AP RG ROO 44mm novelty(4) AP 15202 jumboThis would leave me with:(1) Patek 59801r(2) Patek 5970j(3) Rolex DSSD(4) Rolex YG GMT2cWould you do it? Kind of fun thinking about it! Going to post in the Patek forum as well to get balanced views.I was walking around today in HK and stopped by a grey seller shop here in HK that I use to frequent but hadn't been i
