Watchmaker Shares Truths About Watch Service & Repair
As an watches-dealer guest, Hugh Taylor from Xupeswatches-dealer (a pre-owned watches and luxury goods dealer in the UK) once again interviews their in-house master watchmaker, Mickey Nolan, as they talk about the often mysterious and typically expensive world of watch service and repair. Oftentimes, the only "true" account of watch repair comes from the men and women who are actually fixing the watches. We attempt to clear up myths, explain the source of delays and costs, and offer a watchmaker's perspective of the watch service and repair process.A few weeks back, I read over the story that Rolex was bumping up its guarantees and service intervals. All new watches were to have five-year guarantees, and the recommended service interval had miraculously jumped from three years to a whopping ten. This must have come as a thunderbolt to their rivals, I thought, but how come such a hefty confidence boost? As far as I knew, Rolex hadn't made any drastic technical changes on the level of su

A little disappointment with Omega
Took my Speedmaster to the closest Omega AD as one of the chrono hands wasn't resetting to zero and it hadn't been serviced. Was keeping time around -15 sec per day. I've had it for around 5 years. They sent it to Omega for service. Got a call from Omega today. The movement isn't performing to our standard and needs a full service. Ok. No sweat. Cost? 950$...ouch, but it is a chrono so....Big disappointment--watch will have a ONE year warranty after service compliments of Omega. Guess that's why we all appreciate the 5 year Rolex warranty. Sigh. Seems a little short to me. But oh well I guess.
Thoughts on Nautilus 3800?
I was hoping to get your thoughts on the 3800. I am absolutely mesmerized by the look of the Nautilus. Nautilus is without a doubt a timepiece I would love to own.I was wondering what people's thoughts were on how it would look on a 6.5 inch wrist? I have never had a chance to try one on in person and due to its asymmetric design I have trouble comparing it to other watches. For example I find that the 34 inch Air King wears too small on my wrist, while I am fine with my 36 inch Tudor Day Date. Any opinions (or even pics) would be much appreciated.
If you could have either (but not both)...
Seeking input, with the understanding that the price point is different:PP 5712/1a Or AP 26320STP.S. If there is a thread on this comp already, please let me know and I'll start there...thanks.
