Unique Patek Pilot’s Watch Brings $1.7 Million
At Christie’s May 11 Geneva sale, a private Swiss museum paid SFr.1,891,000 ($1,734,862) for a unique, oversize aviator’s wristwatch made by Patek Philippe. The 55mm timepiece features splittable center seconds and an hour angle dial. This is the only watch of its kind known to exist, and until the sale, there was no mention of such a watch in the literature. The Patek Philippe archives confirm that this watch was completed in 1936, and that it was sold on September 28 of that year. The watch is thought to be a unique prototype made on special request. The case is chromed nickel. The dial is black lacquer. The scales and signature are carved into the plate and filled with off-white varnish. Luminous material was used to highlight the Arabic numerals and the outer 60 degrees scale, as well as the hands. The “hour” hand rotates once in 24 hours, indicating the degrees of arc against the center circle divided into 360. The “minute” hand rotates once ever
Little scratches on bezel side near crown from setting time / screwing in crown?
Am I the only one this happens to?On your RO, especially if you have a screw in crown, unlike the 15202, the polished side of the bezel has small hairline scratches. They aren't really noticeable and they don't bug me, but I can't be the only one this happens to!I barely have nails too!
44mm RG or Pt weights?
Can someone with a grams scale please throw their 44mm RG or 44mm Pt on and lmk the grams please?I just read the smaller RGRC actually weighs more than the 44mm due to the sold case back, deployment buckle and RG bezel that's rubber coated.Would also love to know the weight of the 44mm Platty version too! Thanks all!
Question on older Constellation
image.jpgAn old friend of mine passed away and he left me his well used Connstellation. I was trying to learn a bit more about it. He told me he bought it when he was in the service in the late Vietnam era, I think that is correct for this model. I wanted to look up the serial number but the number on the movement is unlike others I've seen. Is this a replacement movement or something of that sort? Also the band is missing one of the links closest to the case, I have no idea how that came to be but if I want to wear it I'd need at least two links and it sure would look better if it wasn't missing that link. Am I right in assuming I should just be on the lookout for a complete bracelet assuming I ever decided to wear it?
Every time I put it on,
I fall in love again:My PO LM LE doesn't get the wrist time it deserves as I tend to baby it due to its uniqueness. But when it does get on my wrist, my heart goes, WOW! It's hard to keep my eyes off of it. Wearing it while driving my car is downright dangerous. And to come indoors after being outside on a sunny day, the blue lume jumps off the dial and hands! When it arrived back in May 2010 and I opened the box, my wife said, Elegant! I must agree.
