Damasko DA44 Watch
One of the most notoriously difficult to find German watch brands is Damasko. They tend to make cool, high-function tool watches for a fair price. If you are a fan of Sinn, you'll also like Damasko - and it goes without saying that Damasko's designs are highly inspired by Sinn timepieces (which are also less than ironically hard to find). If I could give some advice to Sinn and Damasko it would be to understand that pieces such as this would do much better in America if anyone in the US could ever find them. Let's talk distribution people! Sometimes I don't understand how these businesses operate without basic notions of doing business outside of Europe. But I digress!New for Damasko is a model called the DA44 which will come in both a 42mm wide bead-blasted steel case and a black-coated steel case. This is when it starts to get interesting. The steel they use is one of those very hard materials that they claim is ice-hardened and nickel-free. It goes through a range of hardening techni
What Is Seiko Kinetic Direct Drive? An Evolved Quartz Kinetic Movement; The Answer Is Here
We are lucky that Seiko spends as much time as they do in the lab dreaming up new movements. In fact, Seiko watches now come in at least five different movement flavors. You can get a traditional quartz movement, an automatic mechanical movement, a quartz Kinetic movement, a quartz Kinetic Direct Drive movement, and a quartz regulated Spring Drive mechanical movement. Seiko's dream seems to be combining the best of both worlds in terms of quartz and mechanical movements. Arguably the Spring Drive embodies this dream as it looks like an automatic mechanical movement, but has the accuracy of a quartz movement. Before coming out with the Spring Drive movement, Seiko created the Kinetic movement. The idea was simple. Take the rotor from an automatic mechanical movement, and instead of having it wind a main spring, have it charge a battery. This relieved the owner of ever having to replace the watch battery, and gave them the accuracy of a quartz movement. The Kinetic movement was very succe

When is the last time you received a glass of champagne?
In Gran Canaria and happened across a 116610LN. Coming from the UK I bought it without hesitation as it's not one I have and my friend will buy it if I change my mind. (I paid less than list as well!)When I was filling in the warranty card I was offered a glass of champagne as a congratulations and thank you! I think the last time that happened to me was 6 years ago when Daytonas were not so hot. Has it happened to anyone else recently? Especially in the UK where I feel most of the time dealers think they're doing you a favour selling you or allowing you to buy one!
