Three On Three: Comparing Independent Watches Under $15,000
Three on Three has returned. In our first head-to-head-to-head comparison, we took a look at three of what we deemed to be the very finest in-house, manually wound dress watches on the planet. Today we move into a broader category, but one that is very dear to our collective heart here at HODINKEE – independent watchmaking. But even more interesting than the folks who craft an amazing piece of original horology and then charge you for it, like a Laurent Ferrier, Philippe Dufour, or Kari Voutilainen, there is a group of independents out there that make fantastic products with unique twists and don't ask for a ton of money. Today we are looking at three truly independent watches, each for under $15,000.Read on for a detailed analysis of the Sarpaneva K1, the Speake-Marin Serpent Calendar, and the Habring2 Jumping Second Pilot. Deal on an Omega?
I am no expert on Omegas but this seems like a really good deal. It's not mine by the way. Had I not had a major expense in the last week I would have bought it..6speedonline/forums/s...d.php?t=132738Best Regards,Thomas Carey
Purchase Question - 5140P
Hello!I'm pretty new to this hobby, but just wanted to say this Patek sub-forum and the incoming threads are driving me crazy!! That said, I'm thinking about purchasing a Patek on my own for the first time. I have a 5119G that I received as a graduation gift (M only Patek). I prefer leather straps over bracelets for Pateks for some reason and I'm trying to be under $90k for a brand new piece in my name. I've done some homework and I really like the 5140P but I was wondering if you guys could give me some other suggestions. I've heard some pieces being application only pieces? Is 5140P an application piece? Do AD's discount pieces like this? Thanks guys!
Rolex on the red carpet!
He's wearing my watch - actually the one I'm still waiting for! Lol. My son also recognized it! I guess I must be rubbing off on him! He too will be a collector!Michael Strahan - white Daytona C
How different is the DJ SS Blue dial vs the Sky-D SS Blue Dial in real?
Can anyone comment, on how different are the blue dials that are available on the SS version of DJ and Sky-D? If someone has seen both the watches in person? Looking at the pictures on the Rolex's website, there seems to be a slight difference. The blue dial of Sky-D has a bit of shimmer. But they don't mention if there is any difference. In person they might be more similar than when looking at the pictures online!?I was lucky to get an SS Sky-D with black dial. However, haven't tried any Rolex with blue dial yet. So wanted to get opinions. Maybe get a DJ in future with blue dial.
