Turning The Crystal Upside Down: Clever Method Of Placing A Magnifier Lens
It was probably Rolex that pioneered the use of a magnification lens on a watch's crystal over the date to enhance the wearer's ability to see the date. They were most likely to first to use this technique although it is unclear whether they invented the concept. Since Rolex starting using magnifier lenses, it has been a controversial watch feature. While most people don't need the magnification lens (sometimes called a "cyclops") to read the date, it is a nice addition to have when you want to know the date at a glance. And for some people, the date is just too small to be read without squinting.Rolex put the magnifier lens on the Submariner (not Sea Dweller model) watches and the Datejust models (among other Rolex watch models). The placement of the date and magnifier was specifically chosen where it is, because if wearing a watch on your left hand, it was the first part of the watch that emerged from your sleeve, allowing quick reference to the date. Incoming and a more to come
Guys, I have been building up too many conservative dress watches and thought I needed to mix it up a little. I have been busy and have posted pics of two of these but thought I would put them all in one thread and ask a question. Its been a busy month with AP.I have a friend with a white ceramic and wanted a cool summer piece. The ROC in rose is just something I have admired for too long, but that new blue dial, AHHH. The 42 Offshore is something I have looked at for a long time, finally got the right deal and pulled the trigger. So - I have another arriving later this week, anyone want to guess what might fill in nicely with these three?
Breitling Bentley Clasp
I noticed theres a differnce on the old clasp an new one. When did the new clasp come out (Breitling made for Bentley)? I think the old ones just say only Breitling. I had a dealer tell me the watch I wanted to buy was brand new but I noticed the clasp only said Breitling so I think he tried to pull a fast one on me Any experts here?
Major jump in prices on Vintage Watchco Seamaster builds!
I was just checking Ebay for Vintage Seamaster 300s as I often do, and came across a few Watchco listings for their newly built Vintage Seamaster 300. They had been asking a buy it now of $3700 just a few weeks ago. Today the buy it now is $4400.I knew the day would come that the prices on these would go through the roof...that time is now. As some of you are aware I built three of these in the last few months and due to price increases I have stopped doing builds of my own. Glad I got in on them while they were still reasonable. One of my builds is still my daily wearer and favorite watch I have ever owned. If anyone is considering one, or has been, you better get one now before they are $5000.
3573.50 was magnetized!
Guys,You aren't going to believe this (well maybe you are). My speedy was running +45sec/day fast. The chrono was advancing automatically to the 5 second indice when the pusher was depressed and it was hard to wind. Which lead me to believe my certified pre-owned Speedy from Tourneau (yes I know, should've bought from TRF, was a good deal) was in need of a service or overhaul. However, upon taking to the service dept at Tourneau, it was determined that my speedy was magnetized! They demagnetized it, it's now running +8-10sec/day with an amplitude of 317. And the chrono feature works again. I validated the timing against atomic time.No idea how it go magnetized, but wanted to see if anyone else had a similar experience?
