World Time 5110P is the most photogenic beauty, but wasn't for me
To add variety to my collection, I have wanted a world time watch for years. I have always drooled over PP's choices, especially the 5110P. In my opinion the 5110P is the most beautiful watch in photographs. Its balanced design is superb. It's a photogenic beauty. BUT, on my wrist, it was a complete disappointment. To me the blue was much darker in the real world, unlike the lovely color seen in pics with ideal lighting. And at 37mm, it got lost on my wrist. I tried it on several times over the years, but couldn't pull the trigger. One time I even tried it on and a 5130 on at the same store. It was like Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. You know, I found the one that was just right. I could feel it. I continued my search for another year and finally found a great deal used, pulled the trigger, and I am SO happy now with my 5130J, and my 3rd PP in the family. Those original, heritage, world-time classic hands of the 5130 grew on me. Now I like them. The size and fit is excellent for my wrist
Mario Paci straps: a brief review
I ordered 4 straps by Mario Paci recently, and they promptly arrived today. I've installed 3 of them and snapped a couple of shots. The MP straps are fabulous! They're made of thick hides, rich in color and aroma. They arrived firm, but soften quickly as they're broken in (which I did all day).As I have small 6.5 wrists, I ordered all but one strap in 115/75 size. This fits fine, with the buckle fastened at the 2nd or 3rd hole, but it leaves a very short tail. Due to the thickness of the straps, consider ordering one size longer when ordering (125/80 in my case). MP makes this recommendation on their order page as well. All the straps I ordered came with sewn-in buckles that are very robust. I would have preferred to use my stock Panerai buckles, which are smaller, but as I said the buckles are sewn in; furthermore, the straps themselves are not tapered, so the stock Panerai buckles I own wouldn't fit anyway. That said, the buckles themselves are well built, nicely finished, and look
Which Rolex to add???
My humble collection is need of a Rolex so I'm asking all you fine folks to help me decide on which model to add to this trio. I've owned several Rolex refs in the past....116610LN, 114060, 116710LN, 116710BLNR (twice!), and the Daytona (black dial). But just none ever stuck for various reasons (didn't work with the current collection, got bored, didn't work as a one watch collection, etc). I've even considered adding a ref that I've owned before as maybe it would work within the current SOTC. But if I were to add a ref I've never owned before, a TT sub is high on my list as well as the 116610LV. Possibly even the new Explorer I? Thoughts, suggestions, recommendations, comments all welcomed! Thanks in advance.
