The Jaquet Droz Bird Repeater Openwork: 5 Things to Know
The Jaquet Droz Bird Repeater Openwork combines expertise in several arts to create an amazingly detailed and realistic automaton with minute repeater. This new model also features a clear sapphire dial that reveals the complex mechanism behind the moving parts. Here are five things you need to know about this new timepiece. The namesake of the Jaquet Droz watch brand, Pierre Jaquet-Droz, was an 18th century Swiss watchmaker who was known for creating outstanding examples of what some today might call very early robots. Known as automata, these figures took various forms, including human and animal, and they came in various sizes, from tiny miniatures to life-size. Exceptionally complex machinery caused the figures to perform a variety of tasks, including playing musical instruments, writing, and drawing. Jaquet-Droz was a master of this art, and he often included animatronic birds in famous table clocks, pocketwatches, and music boxes. The Bird Repeater Openwork is a remarkable tribute
Audemars Piguet & Theo Jansen's Strandbeests At Art Basel 2014
Theo Jansen conversing with patrons of the Strandbeest Audemars Piguet pavilion at Art Basel, 2014Audemars Piguet has been a sponsor of the famed Art Basel in Miami Beach, FL, for the past two years. The relationship is ongoing, and Audemars Piguet uses the event as a means to introduce new ambassadors as well as to announce its ongoing commitment in supporting select artists and causes. At this year's show, the focus was on Dutch artist Theo Jansen, whose Strandbeests are mechanical automatons resembling massive, though what would be rather miniature,?lifelike "beasts." Completely made of recycled PVC tubes, joints, and plastic bottles, these strange creations are powered by capturing and compressing air and using an ingenious logic model. By devising a so-called analogue NAND gate, the artist is able to create what are essentially logic circuits, so that the beasts can automatically decide when to stop (when one reaches the sea water) and continue when no water is detected and reserve
Help! AP with ceramic bezel and monochromatic?
I'm looking for an AP (probly chrono) in 41-44 but leaning towards smaller as my wrist is 6.75. Want it to have ceramic bezel if possible and only one color scheme. I don't like the color red, green, blue, orange etc. when it shows up as accents such as on the hands and yes the red daytona irritates me too. But i do like the all brown theme safari 24670, blue theme, grey theme etc because no accents (are these my best options)?. I also like the 15710st all black. Neither have ceramic bezel but they are all one color which is most important. Any suggestions appreciated...i think all the 44s are accented and seem to be the only ones with ceramic bezel so you can see how this is irritating for me. Unless there is some 42 special edition I don't know of with ceramic bezel and one color scheme. I also very much like the 26320 royal oak chrono but the lack of an in house movement with display back irritates me too. I think if they gave the 26320st a ceramic bezel and in house chrono with displa
AP Diver on leather??
I bought my first AP Diver a couple weeks ago and I love it! I however took it in as it was running a little fast (didnt want to wait for it to settle in) and thought I'd get the 3rd year warranty at the same time. This wasn't a big deal as I live in Tampa and the Clearwater center is about 20 min drive.I want to buy the bracelet for it but am being told it has up to a 6 month backorder!! I asked out of curiosity if there is a leather with clasp for the diver and apparently there is, brown and black and both are in stock.DOES ANYONE HAVE THE LEATHER ON THE DIVER AND WHAT DO YOU THINK?Thanks in advance and pics would be greatly appreciated.Daniel
wanting to push go on pam 392
so my last purchase was a submariner and now i have decided that i would definitely love a panerai 392. meets all the criteria. date without bubble, 42mm, SS etc. but i have a conundrum. i could buy it in the uk new but pay a premium or wait until i go on holiday later this year and buy it from a official dealer for a saving of 1000 plus the tax(i guess, having not looked into it). i am not in any rush but i was hoping for some wise words from the forum
