Patrizzi to Auction Historic Original Breguet Manuscripts on May 7
On May 7 in Geneva, Patrizzi & Co. will auction a historic manuscript written between 1818 and 1823, during the last years of Abraham-Louis Breguet’s life. The document, which recently resurfaced, chronicles Breguet’s horological innovations, the history of his firm, watch calibers and complications, and his overall philosophy and designs. Breguet dictated the text to his assistant Louis Moinet and edited and noted corrections by hand. Breguet died in 1823 before it could be completed. “It is hard to stress the importance of this event to the world and more specifically to the horological world,” said Osvaldo Patrizzi, chairman and CEO of Patrizzi & Co. “These are the writings of the master of horology, the knowledge his lifetime �C from which we can learn many details that we have until today only been able to speculate on. I am contemplating trading my 5164a and 5726/1a for a 5960/1a (and cash to me). I have been offered a great deal so I'm not worried about that end. I'm just completely split on what to do. The 5164a is really not singing to me so I do want to flip that. I like the 5726/1a but think the 5960/1a will more than make up for that. I mean chrono, ac, steel, amazing insane different dial. My concern is the bracelet. Pictures don't make it look great but I am sure Patek makes a beautiful bracelet and that the subtleties and nuances of the craftsmanship come alive in person. So TRF, what would you do?I am also curious what TRF thinks about long term value of 5960/1a? Is this a winner?
