Rotonde de Cartier With Marquetry Bear Motif
Marquetry is the art of applying carefully cut and often tiny pieces of wood veneer (and other materials) to an underlying structure to form a decorative image or pattern. At the highest levels, the craft requires an artist’s eye, deep knowledge of the selected woods, and a steady hand to execute the fine cuts. The Rotonde de Cartier with bear motif combines marquetry and watchmaking to produce a limited series of uniquely artistic timepieces. Everything begins with the design, which inspires the marquetry craftsman to select each wood for its color, grain and texture. Ten species of natural European wood blend together to create the bear’s fur: holly, chestnut, poplar, willow, grey and pink maple, walnut and burr walnut, mottled maple and grey aningeria. The woods are deftly combined to create the illusion of depth and perspective through reflections and contrasts. Tiny details, such as hair-thin lines representing shadows, add a lifelike quality.Numerous steps and an inve

Photo Report: The Paneristi 15th Anniversary Event With Panerai
This past weekend Paneristi celebrated its 15th Anniversary at a private residence and gallery in TriBeCa. HODINKEE was there to witness the excitement, as the North American President of Panerai, Rafael Alvarez, revealed the special edition Luminor Base Logo PAM00634 in honor of the celebration. It was a special night for all of those who attended, in particular the founders of Paneristi. The room was full of Panerai enthusiasts and collectors who mingled amongst a fantastic collection of vintage Panerai wristwatches belonging to a private collection. 1 OF 16 2 OF 163 OF 16 Mare Nostrum PAM300 4 OF 16 6152/1 "Marina Militare" Made In 1955, 47 MM 5 OF 16 6 OF 16 3646 With Anonymous "Kampfschwimmer" Dial Made In 1943/1944, 47 MM 7 OF 16 6154 "Radiomir Panerai"/"Piccolo Egiziano" Made In 1954, 47 MM 8 OF 169 OF 16 3646 "California Dial" Made In 1944, 47

PAM recently stopping when sitting on a winder
Hi All, I have had my PAM 328 for just about 5 years now. So far it has kept time well and gotten wrist time of at least 1 day/week and I keep it on a Wolf modular 4.1 winder the rest of the time (I also have my other 6 watches in my collection on a similar winder). Recently, I haven't given the watch as much wrist time and have noticed it stopping when sitting on the winder (set at 900-1000 rpd bidirectionally). If I take it out and hand wind it and let it sit off of the winder, I typically get close to the 3 day power reserve but if I wind it up fully and then put on the winder, I am finding that it is stopping after about 5-6 days. Has anyone had an issue like this? Is it simply time for an overhaul? I know the obvious answer is to simply wear it more but I wanted to run it by the forum here to see if anyone had any thoughts on this. Cheers.
