Swiss Watch Exports to USA Drop Nearly 50% in February
The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry reports that the value of Swiss watch exports to the U.S. market declined in February by 47.5% compared with February 2008 levels. For the first two months of 2009, the value of exports to the U.S.A. is down 38% compared with the same period last year. Hardest hit were watches priced at 500 to 3000 Swiss francs (about $445 to $2670 at press time), sales of which were down by more than 40% in terms of both units and value. Exports of watches priced at 200 to 500 francs or $178 to $445 were down about 33%.Watches priced above 3000 francs fared best, registering a decline of 6.6% by value and a bit over 10% in units. Based on materials, as might be expected, steel watches were the hardest hit with exports down about 29% based on units and value. Gold/steel bimetallic watches were off about 37% based on units and value. Exports of platinum watches increased 9.7% by value while falling 13% measured in units. Victorinox Officers Day Date Review
Victorinox is a household name in more ways than one. If you're like me, your first encounter with them was actually in the form one of their many, iconic Swiss Army Knives. Somewhere in adolescence, every boy ends up with (at least) one of those little red handled folding knives with a scissor, file, blade, toothpick and tweezer. At a certain point, one usually acquires a larger version with saw, corkscrew, and more, that likely makes its home in your garage, kitchen, camping gear, etc. They are practical tools that are easy to find an application for.Victorinox's products hardly stop there, ranging from travel gear to, oddly enough, fragrances. But, if you're reading worn&wound, you likely already know that their other iconic product is their line of watches. With classic, military inspired designs, the Victorinox watches are easy on the eyes and often on the wallet. With prices ranging from a couple hundred for a simple quartz to a couple of thousand for a mechanical chronograph
Please help me identify this watch.
Hi Guys just wondering if anyone can help with more info on this watch. History:It was given as a gift by my Grandfather (since passed away) to my twin brother in the early 70's whilst visiting in Greece. Peter has not worn the watch for over 20 years, it's been sitting in a drawer. He says it runs perfectly. It was last serviced by Omega in the 90's. I have discovered it is referred to a Soccer dial (apparently because of the 45 min sub-dial, because that is the time for each hasl of a soccer match?). The bezel is rotated by the crown at the 10 o'clock position. I am not sure what the numbers on the bexzel are meant to represent. I would also love to get an idea of it's value? It appears to be in very good condition, and Peter still has all receipts and papers. It has never been polished! Omega_II.jpgomega.jpg
36mm too small for 7.25 wrist?
What does the forum think? I personally prefer the 36mm DJ and DD over their 40mm counter parts. As stated I've got a 7.25 inch wrist, bigger guy but just prefer the classic case sizes in these two references. I've tried to like the DD40 and DJ 41 but for some reason keep coming back to 36mm pieces. I guess I'm just old fashioned. So what does everyone think, is 36mm too small for me? Not that I'd stop wearing my 36mm pieces either way lol. Just curious what the forums thoughts are with the bigger is better trend.
