Fiona Krger Celebration Skull Watch
When we first brought you a hands-on impression of the original watches Fiona Krger was creating, Ariel mentioned that the pieces were very reminiscent of the skeletons you see associated with "Day of the Dead," or Da de Muertos. The exception, to my eyes, was the fact that they were rather monochromatic. Now, I'm not a necessarily a celebrant of that day, but it calls to mind something very vividly colored. With her latest model, the Fiona Krger Celebration Skull, that's all changed. As you can see by these photos, the Fiona Krger Celebration Skull very much hews to the aesthetic of the celebration. It follows the basic geometry established in the earlier watches, and adds the use of colorful lacquer (and superluminova) to the three-layer dial. For me, this sort of juxtaposition of lively color and the epitome of mortality (a skull) is something I can certainly appreciate, though it's not a theme I personally am drawn to.The Fiona Krger Celebration Skull also marks the first time
Sellita Movement Makers: A Little Bit of China In Switzerland
Most watches companies do not make their own movements. Quality watch makers buy their movements from mostly ETA, the Swatch Group owner mega movement maker. In 2010 however, ETA will stop selling its movements to outside companies. It will continue to provide movements for it's house brands, of which there are several. ETA is part of the Swatch Group which makes a number of brands as seen in the link. When ETA stops providing movements to out-side brands, they will have to go elsewhere for movements.Sellita is a growing movement maker in Switzerland, but has had a bit of a copycat history. They mostly copied ETA movements. Can they do this? Well, probably, at least in the US. Most ETA movements have been around for a while and in the US Patents last for 20 years only. Because movements are machines, they only intellectual property protection they would have is a patent, and presumably the European patent laws are similar to those of the US. Take the ETA 2824-2 movement, which has been

100th post, and first patek
Today is another one of those monumental days in our rarified hobby. A step into a new brand, or the realisation of something long awaited. I remember the first time I saw the 5711 was christmas 2011, so a very long 6 years ago... But even back then, all I could think about was the rolex submariner I had been learning about and saving up to buy. Since then many rolex have come and gone, as I turned out to have a very large appetite for them once I got started. Even back then though, I'd read around enough to know that patek was a big deal, and the 5711 was a special and widely respected piece. As the store seemed almost empty of customers that day, I had dropped in, out of the snow, to try on the sub again.... They never minded showing me on any occaison, I got given a coffee and we talked about my love of watches, and how I wanted a rolex to be my next venture...On this day, the dealer asked me, if I wanted to know where I'd end up in a few years.... he said that my passion a
