Breitling for Bentley Masterpiece: A Tribute to “W.O.”
Each year, Breitling creates a unique piece named Bentley Masterpiece: a mechanical magnum opus combining tradition, performances and the finest craftsmanship. This year at Baselworld, Breitling will unveil its new, one-of-a-kind Grande Complication pocket watch dedicated to the Bentley’s founder. The 2010 Masterpiece combines two sophisticated complications: a perpetual calendar displaying the date, day, month, leap years and moon phases, and a minute repeater. The movement, based on a late 19th century blank of which Breitling found just a few examples in its workshops, comprises almost 700 parts. The refined finishing C hand polishing, chamfering, and C?tes de Genve C is visible through a transparent caseback. In tribute to Walter Owen Bentley, the cover of the 18-carat yellow gold case is adorned with an engraving depicting him at the wheel of one of his racing models. This portrait is accompanied by the famous W.O. initials by which the engineers and craftsmen of the Brit
Orbita Futura Watch Winder Review
You are either gonna love or hate this watch winder - but if you are anything like me, you really like it. This is the Orbita Futura watch winder. There are actually several winders in the Orbita Futura line and this is sort of an interim version which you might not be able to find available. Still it is a good representation into the Futura watch winder line. Let me explain. The current entry level Futura winder is known as the Orbita Futura 1. It does not have the open circuit board and quite as many settings, but preserves the same cylinder on rollers winding style. The Futura 1 looks a bit different, but you can tell where it got its style - from this model I have reviewed. Like this model, the Futura 1?? has an acrylic lid. The high end version of the Futura is actually called the Tourbillon 1. This is the version that looks most like this specific Futura. There are two main differences between this Futura and the Tourbillon 1. First is the use of crystal glass as opposed to acryl
LiquidMetal: does it live up to hype?
I currently do not own an Omega, but saw that at least one of their models has a Liquidmetal case. If someone owns one, I would appreciate feedback on scratch resistance and weight compared to Titanium or other metals.I visited the Liquidmetal website and naturally it placed LM above Ti, steel, etc. in all categories. And Apple has made several proprietary contracts with LM, suggesting the iPhone6 or another Apple device will have a LM case. But I was hoping to hear from an owner about the LM properties. And if it is so great, why aren't other major watch makers using it?Thanks in advance.
Time on the moon
Since the Omega was on the moon, did it show earth time?A day on the moon is 29.5 earth days. That would be quite the inner watch workings!
Ugh...the noise...the noise!!
I need to start by saying that I absolutely love my Patek 5164. The look is the perfect combination of luxury and stealth. Plus, it feels unbelievable on the wrist. The tropical strap makes it a perfect summer watch when those hot, humid temperatures would ruin a leather strap. I could go on and on singing the praises of this amazing watch. But........But I have to admit, the noise of the rotor is driving me nuts. I knew the Aquanaut had a reputation for making noise before I bought it. But I never knew it would be so audible. Truthfully, I didn't think it would be a big deal for me. In fact, I kind of thought it might be one of those little endearing traits. But having owned it for quite a while now, it's becoming a severe negative.Honestly, I don't get it. How can a watch that costs over $30k sound like a tin can? It really makes me feel like it's not a well-made product. I'm surprised Mr. Stern approved the release of a product that rattles and hums so audibly. I own se
