Longines Telemeter & Tachymeter Chronograph Watches
Longines will soon release these two vintage inspired watches that are lovely and affordable examples of classic sport timing timepieces. The watches are the Telemeter Chronograph and Tachymeter Chronograph. What makes them different? The dials, that's pretty much it. Each of these designs are faces we have seen before in the past, rendered here nicely in what is in my opinion an affordable package.Other than the dials, do these pieces look familiar? They should. The Tachymeter and Telemeter Chronograph pieces are slightly altered versions of the?Longines Column Wheel Chronograph. Up from 40mm wide, these new pieces will be 41mm wide in steel, and will contain the same Longines caliber L688 automatic column wheel based chronograph movements. These are exclusive to Longines movements made by ETA (caliber A08 L01) with a 54 hour power reserve. The case shape is virtually identical to that in the Column Wheel Chronograph.Higher-end brands such as Breguet, Montblanc Villeret, Glashutte Ori
Phosphor Touch Time Watch On Kickstarter + Interview
If you are in need of any additional proof that Kickstarter is a great place to fund the development of a new watch, look no further than the Touch Time project from California based Phosphor Watches. Phosphor is well-known for their innovative digital watches which often feature E Ink (e-Ink) displays and have a sense of eye-catching charm. On August 6th, 2012 Donald Brewer and the team at Phosphor launched a Kickstarter project for their newest design, dubbed "Touch Time". Within 24 hours they had reached their $50,000 goal and, as of the time of posting, they have over 1000 backers and well over $125,000 in funding. Perhaps this is not surprising given the success of other watch projects such as the Pebble. Nevertheless it is further evidence that the Kickstarter crowd really loves watches. The Touch Time is a digital watch that offers a series of features including an alarm, stopwatch, reminders, world time, calendar, calculator and moon-phase which are all controlled via a touch sc
Inside Nivarox - The Heart Of The Swiss Watch Industry
Nivarox is probably the most important company in the entire world of Swiss watch making. Now owned by the Swatch Group, Nivarox makes the vast majority of the parts that make mechanical watch movements function. Today the company's official name is "Nivarox FAR" and I finally now what that means. The term allows you to understand the industrial nature of the group's goal. Comprised of about four plant locations around Switzerland, "Nivarox" is a contraction of "ni variable, ni oxydable." In other words "neither variable nor oxidable." I'll explain what that all means in a moment. "FAR" roughly translates into an acronym for "Affiliated Assortments Manufacturers."So what is not supposed to be variable or oxidize? Balance springs of course (also called hair springs). These little necessary parts are at the heart of what Nivarox has historically produced, and the primary component they are known for today. Though in reality the Nivarox FAR of today produces so much more. For those who are
Kain Heritage Straps' Presentation Wins
I had zero intention of making this thread - I'm certainly not going to create a thread every time I try a new strapmaker, but what started as a Hey, the shipping box branding is cool grew to this packaging is pretty ridiculous especially at this price point and finally became OK, I'm shooting this thing whole hog.I'm impressed. The well-presented shipping box:With even more killer packaging inside, as each strap had its own carrying case, smaller strap case, and certification card. Again, at the very reasonable price point that Kain heritage sells these straps I am pretty blown away by the presentation here:I actually became worried as I opened the final case containing the strap. The pessimist in me screamed that all this fluff was potentially trying to disguise or justify a substandard product, and I'm very glad to say that I need not have worried. The two straps I purchased were true to the colors as-represented on the Kain Web site, and their fit was new-strap-slightly-tight (as u
