My First Grail Watch: Sean Wai
Welcome back to an original watches-dealer feature, "My First Grail Watch." In this series, we ask prominent people in the watch industry about the first timepiece that they lusted after. Today, we're speaking with?Sean Wai, the architect at the helm of moVas,?who?really does not like watches - at least, not in the way you would expect.watches-dealer (ABTW): Who are you, and what is your relationship to the watch industry?Sean Wai: I am a trained architect, born in Malaysia, studied in Sydney Australia, lived in Helsinki, Finland, and NY, USA. I now reside in Singapore. I started a watch brand about 6 years ago called moVas watches, and I now design, assemble, and test all our watches in-house in the hope of one day creating my own in-house movement.ABTW: When did your fascination with watches start?Sean Wai:?This is an interesting one, as I still tell people that I actually personally don't really like watches. Inside The Restoration Of A World War II Hamilton 37500 Cockpit Clock
New York City based-watchmaker Aaron Berlow specializes in restoration of vintage timepieces. Enjoy this fascinating look at the restoration of an important World War II timepiece, told from a watchmaker's perspective. War has a way of making things hard to get, and when it came to getting precision time instruments from Switzerland, one can imagine the priority the United States placed on that. As a result, the U.S. Government set about creating military specifications for timepieces. One of these specifications called for the development and manufacture of the Hamilton/Elgin 37500 aircraft clock, also known as the AN-5741-1. 1 OF 8 Before the American entry into WWII, planes were equipped with the LeCoultre Elapsed Time clock named the “Chronoflite.” Beautiful in its own right, this clock was quickly made obsolete because of a lack of spare parts, and movements. As war efforts ramped up, both Hamilton and Elgin factories devoted all their producti
Help with a ref. number on AP watch
Hi Rolex Forums,I'm new in here, so I hope that you will receive me well, I might not spell it all right, hope you can understand anyway :)The thing is that recently there was an Audemars Piguet watch at an auction at Bruun-Rasmussen auction house in Denmark where I live. Unfortunately, I didn't win the auction, but I really liked that watch so now I'm looking for another but so far I have not been able to find just a single picture of an identical watch, even after several hours of Googling. I was hoping that maybe one of you could help me with a reference number or maybe even a name. I have tried emailing Bruun-Rasmussen, but they haven't replied. I have some information about it:Casing, needles (aren't they called that?), timemarkers and buckle are all 18kt goldWhite dialDiameter is stated to be 27mmAround year 1985Caliber 2003/1Very thin - I tried it, about 3-5mm is my best guessManual winding Little blue stone on the thing that you wind it up with. What a guy. Has really become a great pal over the years. I tend to be a RubberB guy. He has said good things about Everest. Because I put my SubC bracelet on the BLNR I wanted to do rubber on my sub. He suggested I try his green one. He also suggested I could keep it if I like it. What a guy!!Turns out I love it. Didn’t think I would. But the green makes it super fun and playful. Thanks my friend. Made my day.
