Auction Round-up: Historical Resurgence
The spring auction season has come to an end and in the horological collecting world as in the world at large, the flight to quality assets and the ascendance of Asia are dominant themes. As the price of gold climbs, so too do auction prices for the best pieces: rare Patek Philippe timepieces, especially vintage models – the gold ingots of the watch world, and unique, important historical pieces. Quality and rarity never go out of style. At Christie's May 10 marathon sale of nearly 370 timepieces in Geneva , the first 9 of the top 10 selling lots were vintage Patek Philippes selling for between $418,000 and $5.7 million. In tenth position, the other most reliable brand at auction, a 1955 Rolex triple calendar chronograph ref. 6036 came in at $407,000, far above the pre-sale estimate of $270,000. Question about green submariner
Hey all,I'm new here so hey all, thanks to the forum for allowing me post here. Well, I've been looking for the Hulk and I havent been able to find one for a while - I'm located in SA Texas. It's been a while already so I have to ask, is this watch being discontinued? will they stop producing it? The reason I ask is becase the retail price is 9,050 dollars and I see it on the gray market for a lot more which makes me wonder, why? so I thought maybe it was discontinued. Thanks a lot!
Watch storage temperature
Good afternoon all, apologies if this sounds stupid!I returned home from holiday last night. This morning I went to take my watches out of the safe to give them a good wind and introduce them to my new BLNR. Lol. I noticed the safe was pretty cold to the touch (as it's been very cold in the U.K. this week) and also the contents too. Including the watches regardless of being in their travel pouches. Would being stored in a cold environment cause some internal damage over time perhaps to the oils and lubricants? Or if I'm winding them once a week should this prevent any problem? I'm sure there's nothing to worry about but just wanted your opinions. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
