Jaeger-LeCoultre Hosts WatchTime and Friends At Miami Design District Boutique
Around 30 WatchTime readers in the Miami area, plus their spouses or significant others, were the guests of Jaeger-LeCoultre North America at the company's boutique in Miami's bustling Design District on May 14. Jaeger invited the group for a special presentation of new Jaeger-LeCoultre models unveiled at the SIHH salon in Geneva in January.Watch aficionados gather for the event at Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Miami Design District boutiquePhilippe Bonay, president of Jaeger-LeCoultre North America, flew to Miami to host the evening. As WatchTime's editor-in-chief, I was also on hand. Philippe and I both gave short welcoming remarks. I introduced him, recapping his 17-year career in the watch industry, 16 of them spent in the United States. Philippe said a few words about the new 1,000-square-foot boutique, which opened March 6, and a few more about the brand. He stressed Jaeger-LeCoultre's long and distinguished history, having been founded in Switzerland's historic Valle de Joux in 1833
Affordable Vintage: Hamilton Valjoux 7730 Chronographs
These vintage Swiss-made chronographs from a storied American brand combine great looks and quality mechanics at an affordable price.2013 marked the 50th anniversary of the Heuer Carrera, an iconic racing chronograph from a classic Swiss brand. Although the Carrera's looks have never really gone out of style, anniversary celebrations throughout the year have rekindled collectors' interest in early versions of the watch, and record prices are being paid for the best examples. While it might be hard for the average collector to justify spending a month's salary or more on an original Heuer Carrera, the interesting details of the watch industry in the late 60s and early 70s make it possible for collectors on almost any budget to afford a Heuer-made chronographwith another brand's name on it. Today, we'll look at a pair of such watches from American watch company Hamilton.HistoryIn 1966, Hamilton Watch Company of Lancaster, PA purchased the Swiss watch company Buren. For the next three
Royal Oak 15450ST durability vs Rolex 36 WG Day Date
I've heard that the bezels of the Royal Oaks can be scratch magnets but as compared to the Rolex they are steel as compared to the softer white gold, so I'm thinking the Day date may be just as bad or worse for showing signs of wear after day to day wearing over the course of years. I understand the Day Date has more water resistance but I don't intend to swim or play tennis or golf with the watch on for that matter, so I'm thinking the 50m of the Royal Oak would be sufficient for hand washing, being in the rain, etc.Rolex are known for rock solid construction, are the issues with the crown and stem breaking on Royal Oaks not present in the newer movement of the 15450?Any thoughts on this comparison? Both have beautiful bracelets and the pre-owned market for the 18239 and 15450ST are similar. They both seem pretty versatile for wearing with polo and shorts up to a suit.... I have plenty of other watches (Rolex and Omega) that are more sporty and more casual but I guess I am looking to
Why is Hublot hated by AP Collectors?
Why is there is a general feeling amongst the AP crowd that Hublot is undesirable?Having watched that Hodinkee video with JCB, I've become more interested in Hublot. Some of the Hublot Big Bang models look pretty cool and are much cheaper than AP. Is it because it's more of a trendy watch? Lack of pedigree?Interesting looking watches but not sure if I like them enough to buy one?
Rolex Fine Bone China
I have a relish dish that has Rolex and the trademark crown on the bottom of it. This dish is white in color and trimmed in what looks to be gold. My question is did Rolex make fine bone china or were they made for promo's. Any info would help, thank you.
