Watches NEWS
BEST FROM: watches-dealer and Friends August 2nd
To kick off August, we spend some time with the new Tudor Heritage Chronograph to see if it lives up to its hype. We also find out why another Tudor, the Pelagos, is the perfect one watch; learn how one becomes a watchmaker; attempt to explain why watches cost what they do, and more.1. Memoirs of a Watchmaker: Coming of Age With HorologyHow does one begin to become a watchmaker? Well, apparently, it begins with really menial and mind-numbing tasks such as learning how to look through the loupe with both eyes open and learning to pick up tiny parts with tweezers without dropping and losing them. An interesting read or maybe a warning call for those who aspire to be a watchmaker.Source:?watches-dealer2. My First Grail Watch: Jeff HessMaybe it's just me, but whenever I meet like-minded watch enthusiasts, I always ask what's their grail watch. You know, that one watch that they lust over and desire far more than any others. I think it says a lot about what kind of person he or she is. My
Girl Tech: Franck Muller Presents The World's Smallest Tourbillon Watch In A Feminine Little Package
This has to be one of the most cutesy luxury watches I have ever seen. And at a price that is going to be well over $60,000 it might need some growing up to do. Underneath the heart shaped bridge lies the world's smallest production tourbillon in a watch. The small tourbillon escapement is just 11.6mm wide. Very small, indeed. The rest of the new Franck Muller Tourbillon Lady 3080 T is equally petite. The 18k white gold tonneau shaped case is 42mm high, and 30mm wide. Surprisingly, it is only 10mm thick, which makes it very thin for a tourbillon watch. It is manually wound in-house movement with 80 hours of power reserve in two barrels. Pretty nice for a such a small watch. On the back of the case is another sapphire window for a view of the movement.I think about the placement of this watch in the market. You don't need to make "the world's smallest tourbillon" in a man's watch, as that sort of defeats the idea of today's men's watch which are large. Franck Muller still wanted to embod
In-Depth: Twelve Of The Greatest Missing Watches, Including Paul Newman's Paul Newman, John Lennon's Patek Philippe, The Original Moonwatch, And A President's President
The intersection of politics and popular culture with wristwatches is undeniably fascinating. I mean, that's basically why I have a job. Equally fascinating is the pursuit of these timepieces at the center of this interesection by watch collectors, dealers, and auction houses. There are a handful of documented important wrist and pocket watches out there that the world at large is still looking for. What I mean by that is they have not been publicly sold or located, like say Eric Clapton's platinum 2499, Gandhi's Zenith pocket watch, or Steve McQueen's 5512 Submariner (we won't get into his seemingly never ending supply of Monacos), though we know they exist via a blurry old 35mm photograph, or word of mouth. This is a short list of twelve watches that we know to exist, have serious interest in, but have seemingly gone missing.
