The Streets Of London: Watch Hunting With A Watchmaker
Please enjoy the following article contributed by legendary watchmaker Peter Roberts of England. Peter's new self-named brand is Peter Roberts and is about to release their first watch. It is 1969 and the streets of London are still swinging. As a young horology student, at Hackney Technical College, I am wondering where I will be able to get my hands on some top quality watches for practice. Surprisingly, owners of fine watches are not willing to risk their precious timepieces to an impecunious, novice watchmaker like myself. As soon as I was old enough to roam free, I discovered the wonderful delights of exploring London on foot, putting real life memories and images to those evocative, Monopoly Board Game street names. Now of course, I found the Kings Road, Carnaby Street and Soho, enjoyed the Royal Parks, and in the summer months, the unfeasibly short mini-skirts. But I had, and still have, this obsession C watches C so these three expensive (on the Monopoly board) streets, Oxford St

Grey dealer prices...
You can't even imagine how happy I am that I bought my 5726 just 2 weeks before the price increase in Europe, I just looked on Chrono24, which is where I found mine, the prices are much higher than when I got mine, basically 2-3 thousand euros more for a brand new one like mine, I was expecting the grey dealers to follow the move I wasn't wrong, what would be great for us europeans, since the US prices dropped by 7% while ours were raised by 7%, would be for the euro to gain against the US$ and come back to around 1 euro = 1.40 dollars, in that case I would definitely, if I have the money, not the case for the moment, take a plane for America to get a 5167R, it's quite incredible but as I understand the prices were dropped everywhere, even in Switzerland, and raised only on the european euro market.Does anyone have the exact new prices in Europe and in the USA for the 5167R? If yes thanks for telling us, I don't intend on buying any watch for at least 1 year and maybe even much more th
Strap change questions....
Hello all here at TRF! While browsing the forums this weekend I paid particular attention to straps that are on the watches. It was so exciting to see how a different strap can give an entirely new look to a watch. So, this got me thinking about a few strap-related questions I would like to pose to all of you:1). Do you change your straps yourself or take it somewhere to have it done? I have the tool to make the change myself, but am so worried that I will inadvertently cause damage due to my lack of experience and skill. But at the same time I feel a little odd taking it to a shop to have it done knowing that I didn't purchase the watch there.2). I notice in some of the photos the strap doesn't seem to be the right size (i.e. Too narrow for the lug width of the watch). Are there any potential issues with this other than cosmetic? 3). How often do you change your straps? It seems like it would be easy to become a little OCD with this and develop a habit of constantly changing t
