Calatrava, Nautilus, Aquanaut, or ???
For months I've considered upgrading my meager two-watch collection, currently comprised of a stainless steel Breguet Marine and a rose gold JLC MUT Moon. I've initiated several forum threads during my search and have received many kind replies from TRF members.I initially focused upon a yellow gold Rolex Day-Date because I had the opportunity to buy a new one from an AD at a reasonable price. But I wasn't sure how the Day-Date would fit into my collection and which occasions might be appropriate for wearing a Day-Date. Is the Day-Date a flashy casual watch, a flashy special occasion watch or just over-the-top flashy? Don't get me wrong, I really like the Day-Date and often wish I owned one but, on the other hand, I'm not absolutely sure it fits my self-image. But if I did buy a Day-Date I would keep my other two watches.I eventually realized that I could buy a Patek Philippe for the money I was about to spend on a Rolex. Jumping hour hand on 3186 Exp. II "loose"
I've noticed recently that there seems to be a decent amount of slack in the jumping hour hand, as though it's loosened up or something. I first saw it when it was about 10:45 one night but the 12 hour hand was still directly on the 10 marker. I had a full service a little under two years ago at the Chicago authorized service center, which is why I'm a little annoyed that this is happening. The watch had run perfectly for seven years, died one day (prompting the service) and since then has run a bit fast (used to be just about spot on) and now this.I seem to recall only a year warranty on work, but I'm wondering if anyone with experience there can say whether they will in fact stand behind work longer than that? Otherwise, I would hesitate to go back there, since they didn't seem to do a particularly good job.If I do need to go elsewhere, which location should I send to? There's New York, Beverly Hills and Dallas, right? Not sure whether it matters. Also not sure whether I'm better off
Would you trust a watch with a sketchy history from a reputable AD?
Long story short- very reputable local AD. I was checking out a Submariner circa 2012. He explicitly pointed out the watches warranty card was tampered with and altered by the former owner- he had literally taken a sharpie, blacked out all original info, and then written a 2016 date below it. Watch was in great shape and about $7500. What would you think in this scenario?
