F1 President Bernie Ecclestone Mugged in London; Hublot Stolen From His Wrist
Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone suffered a black eye when he was attacked by four men outside his London office around 10:30 p.m. on November 25. His girlfriend was with him at the time. The robbers made off with jewelry – and Mr. Ecclestone’s Hublot – together valued at $314,000. Following the attack, Ecclestone sent a picture of his face along with a short note to Hublot CEO Jean-Claude Biver. The message said: See what people will do for a Hublot. Since the two have a great sense of humor, they agreed to make an advert based on the photo and message. This Hublot ad will be a strictly one-off shot, appearing in today's Financial Times and International Herald Tribune. The ad shows the unretouched “mugged shot”, along with Bernie Ecclestone’s original commentary. The ad also notes that Hublot does not condone this method of acquiring one of their watches.
Baume & Mercier Classima Executives Magnum XXL Watch
This was one of the best new Baume & Mercier at SIHH 2010, and that really isn't saying much. The brand's return to "heritage" (wow, isn't that starting to sound REALLY cliche these days) has a release of "classic" looking watches. A term that is starting to get on my nerves these days. Like the watch industry is so confused as to what happened in the last 10 years they are just trying to erase is and start from scratch. The Classima Executives Magnum XXL is actually two watches - see my images from the show. Nothing wrong wit them, but they don't really excite me as much as Baume & Mercier would like for them too.See my Baume & Mercier Classima Executives Magnum XXL watch article on AskMenwatches-dealer here.See Baume & Mercier watches on eBay here.See Baume & Mercier watch on Amazon here. Current Rolex and keeping up with inflation.
Gents (and Ladies),We all know Rolex is not necessarily an investment. But does it beat or keep up with inflation? Obviously, this is a broad question and there are endless models ranging from vintage to current models. I wanted to get a sense when one buys a Rolex, does one feel that with time they will at least get back what they paid for the watch and more?I feel this is more applicable in current times with people referring to the stock market as an 'asset bubble' and bonds and savings accounts offering meek returns. It has been advised to keep precious metals (ie. gold, silver) in the range of 5-10% n their portfolio. Would jewlery such as a Rolex be a worthwhile 'investment' as a storehouse of wealth? Thanks in advance.
