Bring a Loupe: Four Lots To Watch At The Bonhams New York Sale TODAY (Think Amagnetic Patek & Ov
As the 2015 auction calendar comes to its end, New York City takes center stage. While the much awaited Speedmaster auction takes place at at Christie's next week, there's also a more under-the-radar sale at Bonhams today – and this catalog may have been slightly overlooked, so there's a chance here for collectors to find great vintage watches without too much bidding competition. Let's take a look at four lots you should watch out for this afternoon, including a very interesting Omega Speedmaster with a bearish estimate. Patek Philippe Reference 3417 Amagnetic 1 OF 9 Quirky would probably be the best word to describe the Amagnetic from Patek Philippe. It combines the classical elegance of a dress watch with a characteristic (resistance to magnetic fields) of a tool watch, something absolutely unique in Patek's offering until the introduction of the Nautilus in the mid-1970s. First, the case is in stainless steel, a very rare metal for vin
Sell AP 15703 for PP 5167?
I have my AP 15703 for a good 5 or so years and i'm thinking of selling it to replace with a 5167. I think i'm not feeling the AP love anymore (i also sold my AP 15400 blue last year and AP ROO 26170ST last last year). Its been my trusted beater for so long so my hesitation is, will the 5167 be as good a daily watch as the 15703? Or should i just keep it for diversity? As per my other watches, i have a 5711 blue, Rolex Sub Hulk (birthyear of my son), a Pepsi , a BLNR Batman , and a Cartier Santos XL. Also, i've done some google search and can't find a side-by-side pic of both 15703 and 5167. I haven't seen a 5167 in the metal and would like to get an idea with its size and thickness compared to the 15703, so if anyone here has both, pics will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
New corrosion tester for OP
Maybe a little late for the 339? ;-)Luxury watchmaker Panerai recently took delivery of an Ascott S120iP. This bench top salt spray test chamber will be used at the manufacturing site in Neuchatel, Switzerland to verify the corrosion resistance of the high quality component parts that Panerai incorporate into their watches. The history of Panerai can be traced back to the 19th century when as a watch-making laboratory, they were selected as a supplier of measurement and precision instruments to the Italian Navy. That tradition and association with the sea continues into the twenty-first century with their current product range. The Ascott chamber selected by Panerai is the ever popular bench-top 120 Litre capacity model. This salt spray chamber is capable of meeting a wide range of international salt spray test standards and is ideally suited to the testing of small component parts.
Sunburst blue SS submariner?
If Rolex put out a blue ceramic with blue sunburst dial SS version of the sub would you buy it? This would be the perfect sub in my opinion. The bluesy is beautiful but TT/flashy and the smurf being WG and flat blue dial isn't for everyone although still a great watch. I'd love to see a blue version of the Hulk. But it's not likely.
LV/Hulk in ADs?
Decided to pickup a green sub to compliment my white AP and bluesy two tone. Called ADs for a while today, everyone is out. Are there ANY ADs that have these watches in stock? Or do flippers snap them up as soon as they're available?Beautiful piece, can't wait to get my hands on one.Chad
