WATCH GIVEAWAY: Minus-8 Layer Automatic
This month on watches-dealer, you can enter for a chance to win a timepiece by the new San Francisco, California-based watch company Minus-8 (referring, of course, to GMT-8 as the time zone of San Francisco). The watch is called the Layer, and it combines a hip modern design with a Japanese automatic mechanical movement. Further, the Minus-8 Layer watch has an NFC-enabled silicon strap which includes a "near field communication" chip that allows the watch to interact with smartphones and other devices.There are a range of things that NFC in a watch can be used for. One good example, is allowing the watch to "unlock" a phone when it is in near proximity to it. There are currently four available versions of the Minus-8 Layer watch. Each comes in a steel case colored different with PVD coating applications. There's just something appealing about the stark aesthetic espoused by the Bauhaus design ethos, and NOMOS is just one of those brands that embodies it well, to my way of thinking. ?They've introduced several new models this year at Basel (see our writeup here on the new NOMOS 38 series), and I came across another one that surprised me a bit.Of course, being surprised by model introductions in Basel is par-for-the-course, at least some of the time. ?What surprised me the most about this new Ahoi model is that it's truly a dive watch (if in no other terms than it's 200 meter water resistance rating), while still hewing to that simple design that work so well in the office or with a suit.If you're familiar with the Tangomat lineup (our hands-on review is here), the new Ahoi will seem instantly familiar. As I have said 2 will go away, the Daytona and the 233K, so thought I might share some pics with you guys, since not even my best friend knows what watches I have, he knows I have the sub and the Pam 82, but that's it, I tend to avoid wearing them in a too obvious way, so this is the only place I can talk and share my passion of watches. Have to admit cheating a little as I have included also my wife's Rolex in the lot :smoking:
