Welcome back to an original watches-dealer feature, "My First Grail Watch." In this series, we ask prominent people in the watch industry about the first timepiece that they lusted after. Today, we're speaking with Stephen Forsey, co-founder of independent brand Greubel Forsey.watches-dealer (ABTW): Who are you, and what is your relationship to the watch industry?Stephen Forsey: Born in St. Albans, England, I inherited my passion for the intricacies of mechanics from my father. Another Great Day at European Watch Co in Boston v.Pics
I decided to stop in European Watch Co as I am looking to add a dressier piece into my collection. Everytime I am there the experience gets better. I get greeted by everyone with smiles as I walk in. Josh came right over and remembered my name. We chatted for a bit and I found out Josh had just got back from Geneva (Christy's 175th auction and the other auction). Very cool! You can tell he and everyone there is so passionate about watches. The cool thing is they have something for everyone! From watches under 5k to plenty of pieces north of 50k. All the employees are present and helpful and fun to just talk with. There is no cold sell them on the spot nor snobby atmosphere everyone who loves watches is welcomed with open arms.I happened to run into two buddies I had met at the first BostonRedBar meeting a few weeks ago (Shane ) and found out about the second meeting Tuesday, will be going for sure Anyway, just a fun experience trying on a bunch of great watches and narrowing down the li
Some DEEP thoughts...!!!
I've now had my DeepSea for 8 daysAnd having worn it all day, every day during that time, I thought I would pass along just a few of my own personal observations of a watch that seems to polarize people more then mostWhen first picked up and held in hand, the watch demonstrates a incredible heft One that causes even the most ardent watch enthusiast to pause and exhale deeplyBut once on the wrist, I found the extra weigh to miraculously vanish entirely I've heard comments from people about a Top Heaviness or Floppy feel when wornBut I must say that I found, in my case anyway, for this not to be soThe watch seems to sit atop my wrist where it belongs with no more movement then either my 1665, 16660 or 16600 ever hadIn fact, the watch wears and feels no different on me, then any other Sea Dweller I have ever ownedAnd I tend to wear all of my watches a bit looseThe biggest issue people seem to have, based on what I have read, is the thicknessNow there's no getting around i
