Watches NEWS
Breitling or Rolex
I thought I would post here in hopes of a little more neutral thoughts. Names aside, which company's watches do you prefer? I traded in my superocean heritage for the milgauss gv, and to be honest, I think I prefer the SO. I recently saw the transocean and absolutely love it. I know they don't quite carry the prestige of Rolex and the resale can be horrid, but I hate to feel like I may be owning something just for the name, when there is something I may enjoy more, and it is actually chreaper. The wife says to just get another watch. Not sure if I want $10k in watches.
my brief adventure to HSWA
In comparison to various Rolex(s) i own, the rotor 'whir' from my 5671 is very noticeable. I can hear the whir from about a foot away in a normal office environment. Not knowing if this is normal to this particular movement, I called HSWA. The person I spoke with on the phone asked me to bring it in so they can check to see if everything is in order.. the rotor might be off the rack (whatever that means). As most of you probably already know, after 9/11 most office buildings in NYC require visitors to present a photo ID. Unfortunately I left my wallet home today. Fearing a wasted trip (took morning off from work), I half jokingly offered the security guards my daytona as collateral. They laughed but shook their heads. Grasping at straws, I then asked them to call HSWA if they can send someone down to pick up the watch. To my surprise, an older gentleman (British) in a nicely fitted suit came down to talk to me. He then asked the guards if they mind him escorting me up.Unlik
New Gunny straps for my 233
When I first got my 233 I got a few Toshi straps - .rolexforums/showthread.php?t=420370I wanted something different next time and after a few emails with Pattyb69 decided on a couple of Gunny straps - the Caitlin 2 and Caitlin 4. I took some photos of them today. The Caitlin 2 (the lighter one) is softer and really comfortable, but I like them both.
New one for Mrs stevec14
Given I have spent a year or so buying watches and flipping etc, I am very pleased with the 3 I have and in the price point I am operating don't see anything that really floats my boat really, save maybe a 5 digit gmt. That said, rather than keep spending on me, I decided that my wife should have one as she loves watches but has been loathed to give up her tag which suits her beautifully and has some sentimental meaning.Anyway, it's her 40th next year and I thought I'd bite the bullet pre any possible price rise round the corner. It's a beauty and the dial is lovely. Is exactly the one she liked when we had a browse a few months ago.I feel more excited giving her this than picking up any of mine! Here's hoping she will be happy with one!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Daytona up to daily wear (and tear)?
I love my SS Daytona, it was my grail watch for 20+ years. But I just got it back from RSC service and it's just so pristine and brand new looking that I'm kind of afraid to wear it. Which is stupid, because I could get hit by a bus tomorrow and it'd just be sitting in a safe. I really want to wear it and enjoy it, all the time, no matter what, and let the wear and tear tell it's tale. I do have other watches I can use for really heavy duty activities (surfing, fence building, engine rebuilds) but if I just want to go for it, can my Daytona take it?JCATT
