Perrelet Turbine Chrono Watch
For 2013 Perrelet will be adding a chronograph version of the Turbine to the popular watch collection. Originally released several years ago as a sort of test sport watch, the Turbine became quite popular and has since spawned a lot of versions, including the original 43mm wide size and later a Turbine XL 50mm wide size (see a full review here). Given the design of the dial and the moving "turbine" that spins with the motion of your wrist, it didn't seem possible that Perrelet could offer additional complications. So I think it is pretty cool that they managed to incorporate a central chronograph to the Turbine. The issue of course is that on a watch like this you can't have subdials (as they would look silly being blocked by the turbine), so Perrelet developed a special central chronograph that measures 60 minutes. The dial's central seconds hand is for the chronograph, and there is no dedicated seconds hand for the time. Minutes are counted on a moving sapphire crystal disc. Minutes a
C3H5N3O9 Experiment Watches By MB&F & Urwerk
While it isn't always the case that competing watch brands are friendly with one another, it most certainly is the case with high-end independent brands MB&F and Urwerk. The two brands share a deep respect for one another, as well as friendship, despite the fact that their products are thematically similar, priced in the same ballpark, and are aimed at more or less the same type of consumer. Still, the close relationship between the two is a testament to the deeper meaning of "Swiss Made:" which is actually a sharing of resources, talents, and ideas between people in Switzerland to promote "Swiss Made" as a whole. Enter the explosive new marque C3H5N3o9, otherwise known as the chemical make up of nitroglycerin.Sitting with Max Busser of MB&F a few weeks ago here in Los Angeles, he shared with me a few scant details about a new experimental project he (and the technical mind behind MB&F Serge Kirknoff) was working on with Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei of Urwerk. Almost a
The favorite IWC Ingenieur watch
To be honest, IWC is not my brand. Omega and Rolex are my brand, I love what they do and like most of their watches. However, there are a few other brands that are one or two types of watches that I really like, and that's it. I don't care much for IWC in General. Not my cup of tea. But I like the engineer and the watches of blue line. Anyway, I read a few articles on the new REF.
John Mayer On Watches: Why I Bought The Patek Philippe 5396G Limited Edition For Tiffany & Co.,
It's an interesting time for Patek Philippe from a collector's standpoint. The company has stopped production of some of its greatest complications (the 3970, 5970, 5070, 5004, etc.), they’ve raised their prices substantially (in what I believe to be an attempt to sideline the secondary market), and a new generation of Stern has taken over as president. I’ve been somewhat skeptical about the direction of the brand based on some of the latest design updates, but after cutting the seal on the new ref. 5396G for Tiffany & Co., I know that the brand still cares about collectors. A lot.In fact, I think this watch is a message to collectors everywhere that Patek Philippe will continue to create instant classics. And this 5396 limited edition is one of them. 2 OF 7 The 5396G is an annual calendar made in a limited edition of 100 pieces to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the opening of the Patek Philippe boutique inside the Fifth Avenue Tiffany &a
