Baselworld 2013: NOMOS Ahoi
There's just something appealing about the stark aesthetic espoused by the Bauhaus design ethos, and NOMOS is just one of those brands that embodies it well, to my way of thinking. ?They've introduced several new models this year at Basel (see our writeup here on the new NOMOS 38 series), and I came across another one that surprised me a bit.Of course, being surprised by model introductions in Basel is par-for-the-course, at least some of the time. ?What surprised me the most about this new Ahoi model is that it's truly a dive watch (if in no other terms than it's 200 meter water resistance rating), while still hewing to that simple design that work so well in the office or with a suit.If you're familiar with the Tangomat lineup (our hands-on review is here), the new Ahoi will seem instantly familiar. The most noticeable change would be the inclusion of colors on the otherwise monochrome scheme, with blue luminous hands and a bright red seconds hand. ?You'll find additional lume in the
BASELWORLD 2011 - New Model - Patek Philippe 5216R - Minute Repeater 5216
Patek Philippe Ref. 5216(Press Release and Images by Patek Philippe SA)After 18 successful years, a legendary Grand Complication with minute repeater, tourbillon, perpetual calendar, retrograde date, and moon phases unveils its new identityWith its new Ref. 5216, Patek Philippe rises to a further level of sophistication in minute repeaters, launching the legendary caliber R TO 27 PS QR LU movement with the five most popular complications in a perceptibly larger case that encloses a more voluminous resonant cavity to enhance the sonority of the chimes. This new Grand Complication follows in the footsteps of the famous Ref. 5016 that was launched in 1993 and in the past 18 years has been widely popular among aficionados. Until the Sky Moon Tourbillon was introduced in 2001, it was Patek Philippe’s most complicated wristwatch. Now, the new Ref. 5216R occupies rank 4 in this category, behind the Sky Moon Tourbillon Ref. 5002, the new Triple Complication Ref. 5208, and the Ref. 5207, f

Gentleman what are your thoughts on this timepiece? How is the movement? Is it a scratch magnet? I think it's beautiful. I'm seriously considering getting one. I'd love to hear your opinions first. Thanks!!!!
MR explained by the president
Found a nice 8 minute video where Thierry Stern explains the different minute repeaters and the best metals to use, RG being the best it seems, which is logical since they made the Grand Master Chime from RG and not another metal, personally if I had the possibility, I would love to get the 5213, it's only in WG, has of course MR, PC retrograde and moon phase, plus officer case back and a modern size, 39,5mm if I am correct, it is IMHO the best minute repeater, there are other great ones but in terms of size this is the one that would be the best for me, unfortunately apart from winning the Lottery there is no chance I would ever get one...Enjoy https://.youtube/watch?v=GVGxqxaivo8
Rolex VS Patek
I often hear people saying that Patek, or AP are better watches then Rolex. Why is that? I know there are made a lot less Patek's then Rolex's and that in general a patek is more expensive then a Rolex. I also know that Patek got lot's of watches with more complications then a Rolex. But as fare as I know that is more or less it.I do not know who got the best movements wean it comes to toughness and durability of the brands. Anyone know this? I would guess that if Rolex does not got the best they are very close. But I do know that most Rolex's are more water proof then most Patek's, I know Rolex use 904L steel, while patek use 316L. I know Rolex got everose gold, while Patek just got rosegold. So from my point of view it seems like a Rolex, will withstand the test of time and daily use better then a Patek? And for me that is what is important. The price, the amount of watches produced is not of great importance to me. Neither are the complications. I only really need date and time, th
