Omega Celebrates the 35th Anniversary of the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project Mission
U.S. astronauts Lt. General Thomas Stafford and Vance Brand, and Russian cosmonauts General Alexsei Leonov and Valery Kubasov, joined Omega in New York City in a two-day celebration of the 35th anniversary of the historic Apollo-Soyuz Test Project mission, during which the astronauts and cosmonauts wore the Omega Speedmaster Professional. The Apollo-Soyuz Test Project flew in July, 1975 and marked a high-point for detente. It was the last Apollo mission and the first joint U.S.-Soviet mission. Engineering teams from both sides developed the docking module to link the two spacecraft, and it was there that Apollo commander Stafford (below right) and Soyuz-19 commander Leonov met and shook hands. The event was broadcast live on global television and it was captured 16mm film. If there is one sub-sect of vintage watches that I believe is about to experience a renaissance of sorts, it's vintage Audemars Piguet. For years, I have admired the subtle elegance and incredible design found in early 20th century AP's. I believe them to be some of the most beautiful watches ever made, and based on our visit inside the vault of AP last summer, you guys agreed.There is simply so much to love in this category, and yet we simply don't hear much about it. Sure, there are way, way fewer vintage AP watches out there than any Patek, as we've mentioned, and that just makes them that much more appealing. My wife did allow window shopping in Cellini at the Waldorf to turn into the purchase of an incredibly beautiful and iconic RO 15400 with the silver dial.As my Birthday approached I was thinking about a rest of my lifetime watch This one checks all the boxes in terms of design, build quality and horological tradition. I love my Seamaster but...
I bought my Seamaster (midsize chronometer blue dial, skeleton hands) in September of 2002. It was my first high end timepiece. I always loved the look of the Seamaster and decided to bite the bullitt and shell out the 1300 odd dollars at an authorized dealer.So I have had the watch for nearly 6 full years now and thought I would write my general feeling about the timepiece.For the first few years it gained about 6 seconds per day. Right at the end of the COSC parameters. It now loses about 4 seconds per day (I have never had it serviced).The biggest gripe I have with the watch is the rotating bezel. It is almost worthless because it is so difficult to grip and turn.The red tip of the second hand seems to have faded to orange.The watch does attract scratches to the bracelet.While I love the clasp, I really wish it had the fine tuning like oyster bracelets.I wish the crown was a little beefier.The lume is amazing.The watch is very rugged.I have a friend with a Submariner no date th
