A Record-Breaking Patek Philippe Highlights Top 5 Watches from Only Watch 2013
The fifth edition of the biennial “Only Watch” auction took place over the weekend at the Hermitage Hotel in Monaco. When the final hammer fell, the auction of unique timepieces had raised 5,066,000 euros for research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and a Patek Philippe Ref. 5004T fetched the highest price ever paid for a modern wristwatch at auction. The Patek Philippe watch, the first and only one of its reference with a titanium case, was the subject of fierce bidding among the gathered collectors and philanthropists, who hailed from all corners of the globe. Its final sale price was an astonishing, and record-breaking 2,950,000 euros. Reference 5004, produced between 1995 and 2011 as part of Patek’s Grand Complications collection, is a manual-wind chronograph containing Caliber CHR 27-70 Q, a Nouvelle Lmania base movement produced exclusively for Patek, to which Patek’s watchmakers added a split-seconds mechanism and a perpetual calendar. the “T̵
Mido Multifort Gents & Chrono Valjoux Watches For 2009
Mido has had a long history of Multifort watches over the years. I don't really get the name, and the people at Mido I spoke with don't really understand it either. Some combination of the world "multi" and "comfort?" Which means what? It provide multiple types of comfort, OK.Anyhow, the Multifort name has now been applied to yet another watch, and one that is really cool. So cool I wish they would have given it a better name. There are are two versions of the new 2009 Multifort. the three-hand day-date Multifort Gents with an automatic ETA 2836-2 movement, and the Multifort Chrono Valjoux with (you guessed it) an automatic ETA Valjoux 7750 chronograph movement. The watches are 44mm wide in steel cases and 11-14mm thick (depending on the version). The crystal is sapphire and there is a mineral crystal as the caseback exhibition window. The case is 100 meters water resistant, and you can get the watch on a leather strap with deployment or a metal bracelet. The images you see are ones tha
5980 chrono hand resets to 59
Looking to get a pre-loved 5980 from a friend but noticed this when i was inspecting the watch. When I reset the chrono hand of the 5980, it resets to 59 instead of 0. I have to double click the button ( so essentially its holding at 0 with 1 second elapsed on the timer ) to engage the chrono function so it will align to 0. Is it okay if i leave it at 0 with that method or better if the chrono function is reset Thanks!
First Paneria
A friend showed up on our annual Scotland hunting trip with a new Paneria. Up to now, I've only seen him wear Rolex. I'm intrigued. I own 4 Rolex and 2 Patek and I'm toying with the idea of adding a Paneria, but the choices are bewildering even after a lot of research.I want a date and the tritium lume and the crown protector. I have a 7 wrist so the 47mm is too big. I'm confused about in house movement vs ETA movement. I don't like the ceramic look. I have old eyes so ease of reading the time is important.Suggestions?
2 more deliveries?
Popped into my local AD today to pick up my BB red, (had issue with bezel)they were very apologetic, (not their fault) after a little chat, and a little comment from me saying no problem its not that i was with out a watch was it, they said no, not the point, and we know whats on your list, So now wondering, will any of them be delivered to them before xmas?? which I'm guessing is 2 more, nov, and dec??
