Archimede Pilot XL Automatik Watch
If you are looking for a good priced, well mannered, and large sized pilot style watch, this just might be the piece for you. Archimede released their next Pilot automatic watch with the Pilot XL Automatik. The watch takes everything you like about the traditional simple Pilot watch look and ups the size from 39mm or 42mm to 45mm. The crown itself is 8mm thick. This is actually a good size making for a decidedly large watch that I would NOT describe as being silly big. "That giant watch looks ridiculous on your wrist!" .is not a statement this watch will attract. The Archimede Pilot XL is housed in a steel case (made by Ickler) with a brushed finish, and the sapphire crystal has a double AR coating - so it is quite easy to view and won't really have glare. The dial is simple with high contrasting numerals and blued hands coated with lots of lume. It is a classic looking and highly functional watch face. Inside the watch is an ETA 2824-2 movement which is visible through the mineral glas
Oh crap, my watch stopped running this morning...
Woke up at 6:50am for work, wat h was fine. Took it off to shower and get ready for work and went to strap it back on and it read 6:55am. I unscrewed the crown, reset the time, wound it up and screwed it in. It ran for a few secs and stopped. Pulled the crown back out, pushed it in and it started working. Flipped it over and the balance wheel was not moving and when I flipped the watch back over, it wasn't running. Oh well, definitely a bummer... I inquired about a warranty, the AP warranty expired in Feb, and it wasn't sent in for the 3rd yr of coverage. Thankfully, EastCoast Time was kind enough to offer me a 1 yr warranty on it for peace of mind.
Which LE appeals to you more?
Which LE dial appeals to you more? Gemini IV 40th anniversary or Apollo 11 35th Anniversary? Here is the stunning Gemini LE edition and I think the mini dial has a slightly more refined finish vs. the Panda. Overall, a very sharp piece:Here is the Paul Newman styled black on white dial which is always hard to resist. The contrast and the symmetry combines perfectly I think:
When I point the spotlight
in the right position this dial will really shine in a great way.
New Member, Old and Damaged Air-King
Hi, I'm from DC, and I just inherited a vintage Air-King.Was curious if I could get some advice on the best and/or most cost-effective way to repair said Air-King.I haven't yet removed the band to see the serial number and other information, but it looks to be a 70s or 80s Air-King, with a severely scratched and cracked crystal, and very worn and scratched band. The watch still ticks, but is slower than it should be. I plan on getting the watch repaired fully, but I'm unsure if it is worth going the Rolex certified route when considering the likely value of the watch itself.Watch holds sentimental value, as it was my late grandfather's, given to him by my late grandmother.
