Important Early Cartier Mens Watches
Cartier Santos-Dumont watch from 1912Most watch lovers know that Cartier was an early pioneer of the wristwatch, especially for men. It was not until the 20th century that wristwatches enjoyed any real mass production and the transition from pocket to wristwatch did not occur overnight. When Cartier entered the wristwatch market it was still a product for the very wealthy. Small mechanical movements were still rather exotic, and a timepiece was still a serious (yet necessary) investment for most mainstream consumers. At a special Cartier exhibit located at the Grand Palais in Paris, we were able to view some of the earliest Cartier men's watches ever made.Cartier Tonneau watch from 1911When the wristwatch started its life in the public eye it was mostly considered a women's item. An extension of the bracelet, the wristwatch was seen as being dainty and a lot like jewelry. Even so, Cartier believed in the future of the wristwatch. Cartier started making watches in first decade of the
RO vs ROO bracelet quality question - input appreciated
Hey everyone. Thinking about picking up a 42mm offshore and buying a bracelet separately. I've owned the royal oak chrono 26320/15400 and enjoy the beautiful finishing of the RO bracelet and disco ball effect it has in the light. My question is I am wondering if the offshore bracelet is equally as beautiful and contrasted as the standard royal oak bracelet? I don't have an AP dealer anywhere close to see in person which is why I'm seeking advice. Hard to tell from pictures..
Crazy afternoon, accidental purchase!
I was having lunch near my trusted AD. I shouldn't walk in.. With nothing intended in mind, I ended up walking out with a AP.. I just could not resist the lure of it, the 15305ST.OO.1220ST.01All my APs were ROOs, at the 1st look, the watch looks small to my liking, I didn't really think I was hooked on it.. But, as I study the watch more thoroughly, I was getting poisoned.. The outcome is predictable.. I ended up with my 1st RO jumbo.. An expensive lunch.. I hope it is not a wrong choice..
Advice on a 5396
I have been considering a 5146G for some time and then happened to try on a 5396G while visiting NY last month. I am thinking now, that is the watch for me (looking for a long term PP...not something to flip in a year or two). Really caught my eye as sleek and a modern classic piece. Also liked the white face over the cream face on the 5146.The 5396 to my eye seems more business or formal (but hoping I can dress it down a bit with maybe a mat strap) vs the 5146. Not looking for an everyday piece but also dont want it to be too limiting. Any thoughts on this?I think the 5146 is and will always be seen as a classic. Question is what about the 5396? Crystal balls out please! I know its person choice but does the PP community here think the 5396 a long term keeper or will it fade off as a miss in a few more years time? Or should I just stick with the more tried and true 5146?Thanks in advance for any advice or commentary. Borrowed a few pics just for reference.
Warranty/Service on New Vs. Used
Hey EveryoneIm new to the Rolex world, but not new to the watch game. After a big birthday a few days ago and a lot of hard work convincing my wife (mainly begging!), she has finally agreed to let me get my first Rolex. My question is, how does warranty/services compare on new watches versus used watches? For example: if I bought a used Rolex that's still under factory warranty what is covered...and vice versa. Ive bought used watches before but I was never concerned about warranty or servicing because they weren't really an investment. Any advise on buying new Vs. used would be helpful, especially when it concerns warranty/servicing issues. Sorry if there is already a thread on this topic. I searched, but couldn't seem to find the answer I was looking for. Thanks!
