One Year After The Death of Grald Genta, We Learn More About Him Than Ever Before
One year ago today, the world of horology lost its greatest designer - Gerald Genta.? Responsible for more iconic designs than any other man in the history of timepieces, his trademark aesthetics are ingrained in countless watches we see, and speak of every single day.In an incredibly detailed and revealing interview just published via Greek watch blog VeryImportantWatches, Mr. Genta opens up about his earliest days - when he was getting paid 15 CHF to sell designs to American brands and Swiss suppliers - to how he designed the Royal Oak in a single night.? He mentions many of his less well-known work, like that of his Cellini for Rolex, a limited edition Seiko, oh, and a digital watch for Timex that was made in a very limited run of just 30,000,000 watches.? The article is not available online, so you must download a PDF.? This is an article you need to read if you have an interest in 20th century watches, design, or Genta himself.? I don't have an Omega yet as of this moment but I'm planning to get a Speedy hopefully soon.

Basel 2017 Preview and MORE!
Last night I attended a Basel Preview event at Kirk Jewelers (wonderful time and great staff! thank you!). There are live videos and pictures on my IG stories feed if you want to check it out.The night started with a Bang with double platinum wrist time with the 5070P and the 5170P. More on how these compare later. intro.jpgAs a general matter the watches looked great! Surrounded by watches and flowing champagne... hard to go wrong! My thoughts on some of the more popular references:1. the 5170P looks great. The gradient dial is sporty and the diamonds on the dial are quite subtle (you are right KARL).2. 5230G: the case is very nice in fact (a lot has been said about the stamped case) and the steps in the lugs look great! The watch is a bit big for me and the automatic movement in this case is not to my liking. The vintage vibe is strong and I am sure it will be a popular reference.3. 5168: Too BIG! For me at least. I think it would have been better in a 40mm case. But I think Patek i
