Master Watch Maker Vianney Halter 'Tells It Like It Is' In Interview
Most watch lovers have a fondness and strict appreciation for watch maker Vianney Halter - who is the man behind Janvier Manufacture, a number of interesting timepieces (including the iconic Antiqua), has set the bar for luxury steampunk timepieces, and is a respected personality in the world of horology. Haute Horlogerie Magazine recently interviews him (link below), and I suggest the short read due to Vianney's actually straight forward and sober responses.Any watch industry journalist knows that while you need to interview the CEO's of major brands in the hope that you might get some advertising income out of them down the line, said brand executives mostly make for pointless discussions. They speak in vagaries, are overly positive, and often only speak in "brand mantra." Independents are?? often much better to speak with, and Mr. Halter makes for a good opinion. Here is probably his best quote from the interview:"[T]his year I've seen some totally out-there products that take buyers
Omega quarz question
I would like to know if there are new Omega models with quartz movement (the automatics are not exact in any brand (I am going to get rid of my Submariner116610 for that reason) and if possible with a leather handle.Thank you very much.
Saying goodbye to my 16610.....for a ?58
I had a Sub inch to scratch and did that last year when I bought a nos 16610. It has been my daily wearer but will be replaced as that by the BB58. My problem with the Sub has been that is it too recognisable and I find people and clients staring at it, more so than by Ceramic white dial Daytona. At the start or Rolex ownership I wanted this type of under the radar acceptance that I had a nice watch but as I lived with them i stared wearing watches for me and not others. Im now at the stage where I want what I like and not what I think others would like, for sure this is the attraction for many to Rolex and it was part of it for me. Im over that now. So, I always wanted a vintage looking piece but it is a mine field trying to find something original and good for a fair price.....Enter the BB58. It looks the perfect size for my small wrist and I really like the design, so I have agreed to move my Sub on and waiting quietly for the 58. The Daytona will have to take up the slack for a whi
Datejust vs oyster perpetual
As some of you would of read my last post asking about dials on the op for my wifes up coming 30th B'Day.I thought id update our recent purchase. We were going to go for a 31mm op for her but rolex dont do an all silver dial for this watch. If they did the search may have been concluded. As the days went on though i knew in my heart that a date just with jubilee would be the grail watch for her.I just didnt want to justify the extra $$$$So was pretty convinced on a 31mm op silver dial with pink indices... unfortunately know one had one in stock nor could give a eta on one.As i thought about it more & more i decided just to bite the bullet and get the watch she dreamt of....Can always save more money but its not easy to make an op a date just Any way its a couple of months to her birthday but ivetold her just to rock it now
