News, Photos, and Video: F.P. Journe Unveils Chronomtre Optimum
Even though he has created many very complicated watches, French watchmaker Francois-Paul Journe has always been interested in accuracy above all. His newest timepiece, the Chronomtre Optimum, which made its debut last week at the F.P. Journe boutique in New York City, takes the quest for timekeeping precision to a new level. The Chronomtre Optimum, which Journe calls the “masterpiece” of his eponymous brand’s Souveraine collection, incorporates in its manufacture movement all of the technologies that Journe has developed which have previously debuted in other Souveraine watches to ensure ideal timekeeping precision and stability. The new watch includes a double barrel with two springs, in a parallel arrangement that helps to reduce friction by eliminating the lateral pressure on the wheel. A Week On The Wrist: The Glashtte Original Senator Chronograph Panorama Date With Manufacture Caliber 37-01
The world of in-house, self-winding chronograph movements started out small in 1969 with the Breitling/Heuer/Buren Caliber 11, the Zenith El Primero, and the Seiko caliber 6139 and it coincided with the beginning of the quartz era, which did not exactly provide a lush financial environment for horological innovation (as we all know the Seiko caliber 6139 is long gone, as is the caliber 11 and if it weren’t for the fact that Rolex started using the El Primero in the Daytona in 1988, that might not be around either. Today it’s still a small group, at least in comparison to the number of brands offering automatic chronographs – aside from the ETA/Valjoux 7750 and its derivatives, which are so ubiquitous you have no choice but to call them that, there are a handful from makers like Breitling, Rolex, Seiko, TAG Heuer, and Omega, and Jaeger-LeCoultre, and it’s no coincidence that generally they come from manufacturers – or via manufacturers – who have the
Patek 5196R lovingmthismwacth.. when do I wear it....
I really enjoy this piece. I got this , preowned, a few months ago. I’m struggling finding WHEN or WHERE to wear this. When do you all wear this watch.. or where.I’ve been wearing this with jeans, nice shirt. In extremely casual environments. No one but me recognizes this piece, either. I don’t have to dress up for work. I work from home mostly anyway. I feel somewhat strange wearing this with jeans, in casual environments. I also of course wear this when dressed nicely, but I’ve minimal occasion of any formality... it’s funny I find myself wearing collared shirts with jeans so i can wear the Patek.. I guess I need psychiatric care. My question: when and where do you wear the 5196, or similar pieces. I’m finding this piece far more versatile than my two tone submariner.. it’s awkward, though, because if other Patek owners saw me wearing this piece with jeans , etc, they’d start a brawl. So I’m just wondering when you all buy a Patek
