Carnival of Venice: Ulysse Nardin’s New Minute Repeater
Ulysse Nardin’s San Marco minute repeater, introduced in the late 1980s, was a bold rebuke to the so-called “quartz crisis,” which at the time seemed to herald the obsolescence of the complicated mechanical wristwatch. This year, in advance of this spring’s Baselworld watch fair, Ulysse Nardin again struts its stuff as a producer of ornately designed chiming watches with the release of the new Carnival of Venice.Like the San Marco, the Minute Repeater Carnival of Venice takes its inspiration from Italy’s legendary “City of Canals.” It also uses minuscule automatons, called “Jaquemarts,” which are set into the dial and move in sync with the chiming of the activated minute repeater. On this watch, the Jaquemarts are two masked figures in the dial’s center (masks are a longstanding tradition of the Carnival of Venice, the historic festival from which the watch derives its name), who lift their masks as the repeater chimes the hou
UTS Watches Launches Two New Diver 1000 v2 Models
Munich-based UTS Watches announces the launch of two handsome new Diver 1000 v2 models. The first is a GMT which uses a top grade ETA 2893-2 movement regulated in 5 positions, with Glucydor balance wheel and Incabloc shock protection. This model displays local time plus a second time zone via a GMT hand that completes one revolution in 24 hours. The GMT hand can be set with a quick corrector. The second model provides time and date with center seconds driven by a top grade ETA 2824-2 movement with Glucydor balance wheel and Incabloc shock protection. Both watches are 43mm diameter and 14.5mm in height. As we go to press, the MSRPs on these models are still to be determined. Both watches are available only at UTSWatches. The PAM359 inside is Panerai internal made P.9000 automatic movement
The PAM359 inside is Panerai internal made P.9000 automatic movement with a day 3 power reserve, seconds counter subsidiary and the date. Having an internal movement naturally increases the opportunity to exhibit to collectors. For me, placing all the numbers on the dial actually makes it easier to read and plays with the look Panerai in a good way. The price is around $ 7,500.

G. Gerlach Lux-Sport Review
When we last reviewed a G. Gerlach watch, I concluded by saying that I was more excited about the potential of the brand than the watch itself (the watch being the Otago, a 70's style diver). I felt that they had an opportunity, by being a Polish-made brand that used Asian movements, to sort of do whatever they wanted. They could set their own tone. Well, with the watch we are going to review today, I think it's clear that they are, and that they are quickly evolving into something great. The Lux-Sport is an automotive inspired watch that draws from a car of the same name from 1936. The watch itself is fairly modern to my eyes, but in keeping with the brand concept, it celebrates Polish history and industry. Like all Gerlach's the watch is also predominantly made and assembled in Poland. That is something to keep in mind when looking at this watch. There was no real watch industry in Poland (at least not currently) when G. Gerlach set about starting their brand. Now they make several wa
Steel to strap, bad?
I've been going through roughly 20 steel Rolex watches, and now starting to feel some itch for a proper dress watch, mostly a LANGE 1. Have you gone the same route...?
