Luxury Watch Industry's Dilemma In Hong Kong
Photo Credit: Jason FungAround the world, people are carefully watching news about the protests in Hong Kong. From the popular #OccupyHongKong hashtag and bloggers on the streets to the mainstream press, I think the world is curious to see how Beijing will handle the delicate political situation in China's strongest economic market. Something that is beginning to make itself clear is that the protests in Hong Kong related to free rule will hugely impact on the luxury watch industry, now and going forward.Let's put things into context. Hong Kong isn't just the "gateway to the Asian watch market," but is one of the world's most important places for the watch industry. In an article on this exact topic, John Revill at the Wall Street Journal reports that exports to Hong Kong alone represent between about 15-20% of the overall global sales at corporations such as the Swatch Group, LVMH, and Richemont. Hong Kong represents a huge part of their business.Furthermore, Hong Kong has been the fo
Panerai Luminor 1950 Regatta 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic Titanio Watch
Panerai is an often polarizing brand that has, in recent years, seen a massive spike in popularity and has become a somewhat household name in men's luxury wrist watches. Now, often included in the brands that your non-watchnerd friends are aware of, they hold rank in upscale jewellery boutiques alongside Breitling and Rolex. Personally, I have loved the Panerai Radiomir as long as I have loved watches, but both the price and the case size has often been too much for my reality. While SIHH saw quite a few new models from Panerai, none were as intriguing to me as the Luminor 1950 Regatta 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic Titanio (PAM00526).That's a rather long name, so we'll stick with Regatta 3 Days. What we have here is a 47mm Luminor case constructed from titanium and encapsulating Panerai's in-house P.9100/R automatic chronograph movement with a flyback feature and central minutes (orange) and seconds (blue) hands. This information layout allows the Regatta 3 Days to stick with the fa

Is my brand new Aquanaut Broken or do PP just suck???
Sorry for sounding frustrated but am going back to see my AD. I did read in someone's thread that the self winder can be heard on PP watches (but i don't expect that is every second of the day). I am Ok with hearing while going through real motion, just as you can hear it in a Rolex as well as my GP when you shake the watch and have it relatively close to your ear. My Aquanaut can be heard with a sound that's like ball bearings going around in a race when doing such menial tasks as typing on my PC at work. This CANNOT be right, if it is, my PP experience is going to be REALLY SHORT (as in less than a week). I would not be expecting to hear something like this in a $100 mechanical seiko (in fact I had one once and it did not make a noise). Beyond that I love the look.It is keeping perfect time so I really think this might be as good as it gets if so..... my PP dream is done. I struggled to even think today at work as all i could hear was a whirring zizzzing sound ever time I struck a ke
