The Basics of Intellectual Property: Copyrights, Trademarks, and Patents
Although I am well versed in the area of intellectual property (IP), it has come to my attention that many are not. This can be a problem when individuals are concerned with protecting their rights, and when trying to avoid infringing the rights of others. This article is meant to be a very brief overview of what each of the three main areas of IP law deals with. Copyrights, Trademarks, and Patents are each a huge body of law on their own. In addition to the basic rules, there are numerous sub-rules, and exceptions. The purpose here is to guide novices in to what area of the law they are dealing with, and a place to start asking questions. Let me say up front a general rule; You cannot protect mere ideas. It is the expression of ideas that can be protected.CopyrightCopyrights are all about protecting original works of authorship. For a work to be copyrightable, it must fixed in a tangible medium. This means that it cannot be just an idea in your head. Next, the work must be original, th
Parallel Universe: The Commoner APs
From my sock drawer come two APs. Sorry, to disappoint, but they are not Royalty. These are humble commoner AP chronographs. I bought them used (dunno how many previous owners) and I don't even know how old they are. I think they are from the early 90s but maybe they are from the 80s. This is not helpful and I promise to post information if I find an AP guidebook. Why do I have 2 almost identical watches? Because they look understated and I like that--I thought they looked kinda stealthy. And my wrist is too small for an ROO. They have platinum cases around 40 mm in diameter. One has a white dial that is not easy to read because the hands are very skinny and sometimes disappear against the white. The other has a gray dial and is not easy to read for the same reason. I discovered after buying them that the stealth part is in trying to tell the time. Nonetheless I enjoyed wearing them--except the center crown dug into my wrist (I can get used to anything--including a tiny divo
Pics request
Hi all, I am planning my future third watch to have IMO the perfect trio, and I think I am going RG on the next one, the 4 contenders are AP ROO, Jumbo and skeleton, and PP Aquanaut and 5711, what do you think would go the best with my duo and which are you favorites between these 5?Also I understand that on the Patek I can expect almost 0 discount, what is the discount I can expect on the AP pieces, knowing I got 10% on my diver and usually on gold pieces a bigger discount is usually possible?I like all but there are a few favorites, the 44mm for example, really love the piece but not sure I can pull off 44mm, the Aqua I really like but the price seems a little too much for what it is, would love the 5711 if the dial was blue, afraid I might get tired of the brown dial, prefer the brown like dial of the 5980-1R but that piece is not in my financial comfort zone, love the Jumbo in RG, well at least on pics, will try to get to see it in Paris when I come back, the skeleton is quite cool
George Clooneys Choice - Speedy 57
Was wondering when one of the blogs would do a piece about this model.I've seen the advertisement with Clooney wearing it, but didn't realize it had the line George Clooney's Choice. Not a fan of celebrity attachments to watches, but at least it's not stamped on the watch, or called something terrible like the Clooney Limited edition. I guess they could have done a lot worse when it comes to brand ambassadors.Still haven't had time to check out the bracelet version, but I think it looks great in pictures..ablogtowatch/omega-sp...vintage-watch/
How old is old?
Hi everyone,Looking for a second hand 36 DD..the price difference is substantial as well as their age. What should I look for when buying a DD? Where is the sweet spot regarding production year vs price? Are there any other issues I should consider beside price and production year (technical stuff, not gold/dial color).
