Urwerk UR-1001 Zeit Device Pocket Watch
Someone recently asked me whether they thought pocket watches might come back in fashion. John and I spent time discussing this during an episode of the HourTime Show watch podcast and after giving it much thought the answer was a resounding "not likely." So why am I mentioning this before I discuss what is arguably one of the coolest pocket watches around? Because this pocket watch you see before you won't find a place in jacket pockets and be used to tell the time on a regular basis. It will be stored sweetly and safely and played with from time to time. The privileged few owners of these watches will still use a wrist watch as their primary (or at least secondary) means of telling the time. This and other pocket watches will merely be a collector's item. Possibly really cool collector's items, but still just that.Pocket watches are increasingly attractive for high-end brands to make as limited edition models because of collective nostalgia and size. In 1989 Patek Philippe released i
Legend status: manual Daytona v. modern Nautilus
Just a thought/question I've had lately and wanted to put out for the opinion of you esteemed Patek enthusiasts on a Rolex forum: With the ongoing craze for the Nautilus causing steel 5711/12 5980s/90s to reach 2nd hand prices closer to the 50-60k mark, do any of you consider the relative (value and collectibility) merit of purchasing a manual wound Daytona instead? I suspect the vast majority of you (and myself I'll say) all waited and purchased your Nautilus from an AD at retail. But, when multiple treads on this forum have started asking how many non coveted PM Pateks one has to purchase from an AD to be considered for the opportunity to purchase a steel 5711 for 30k, obviously we all see at least a slight bubble. It hard to predict the future but manual wound Daytonas have been the top echelon of Rolex and sport but really all watch collectibility for a generation. Can we say the same for the modern Nautilus in whatever metal? These are tribute models produced for the last 12 years
Panerai Domed Sapphire
I'm thinking more and more to buy my 1st Panerai. I'm spending hours on this forum looking at pictures and pretty much made my mind up that I really love a domed one. I think up to 44mm would be ok but 47mm seems to be to large on my wrist. Is it just me or do most domed Panerais come in 47mm?I do love the 233 but have seen some very nice other ones which I do not know the model numbers at the moment but they all look like 47's. My dream Pam would be around 44mm with domed sapphire and a brown suede leather strap. Any suggestion from our Panerai experts would be much appreciated. I really want a keeper and that's the main reason for taking my time. Thanks in advance,Frank
