Remembering General Norman Schwarzkopf & His Watches
"I always wore two watches during the [Gulf] war. The one on my left arm was set on Saudi Arabian time and the Seiko on my right arm was set on Eastern Standard Time. That way I could quickly glance at my watches and instantly know the time in both Saudi Arabia and Washington, D.C. Sincerely, H. Norman Schwarzkopf General, U.S. Army, Retired." Words from recently departed General Norman Schwarzkopf in a letter to the Antiquorum auction house in the late 1990s when he donated one his watches for a charity auction. The watch was a Seiko SKX009 diver and was on his wrist for at least the entirety of the early 1990s Gulf War. According to the letter and many images from the time, General Norman Schwarzkopf indeed "double wristed it" with a watch on each wrist. Mark of a true watch guy? At auction, the Seiko which can be purchased new for about $200 today went for $11,000.Four star generals in the US military are quite rare but "Stormin' Norman" was among them. His strategic brilliance and l
Incoming?!?
Choices, choices: (apologies to Robert Frost)? Two watches diverged in a yellow mood,And sorry I could not buy them bothAnd be a one watchowner, long I stoodAnd looked down at one as far as I couldTo where it bent in the showcase lightThen took the other, as just as fair,And having perhaps the better claimBecause it was brassy and wanted wear,Though as for that the passing thereHad worn them really about the same...?I have a chance for the 3570.50 authentic moon watch or the 3573.50 sapphire sandwich. Leaning strongly toward the latter for the sapphires, display back, and enhanced movement finishing. The cost difference isn't a real problem.....Decision pending this weekend.....or a Yogi Berra said, when you come to a fork in the road, take it and buy them both. But they're too similar for that, I think.
My darling son with his favourite / my watch
Well we have all seen the advertisements but today I had to laughMy son is six and loves my watchesToday I told him that I bought something special home and did he want to have a look.He immediately said yes.I pulled out my 5131 and his eyes opened and with a cheeky smile he says 'that's my favourite can I have it when I grow up'To which I said 'yes of course'He followed up by recanting why the watch is so special (he is definitely my son)Anyway my story may have been lost in translation and I apologise for the crappy photo but I was very pleased that one day this watch will be going to a good home...
Tried on a few Pateks this weekend

On The New SS Pepsi List But...
Hello AllJust spoke to my preferred AD.Your on the list......BUT this is going to be as in demand as the Daytona, the wait will be VERY VERY long. Damn those guys have a really professional way of tell you that your screwed!Any of you have a similar experience?A Youtube watch personality that many of us know used to work at an AD and mentioned they would have a safe full of Daytonas and would not sell them people that were not preferred customers (people who have spent lots of money with that AD).The reality is if you are not a repeat preferred customer then your pretty much screwed. At this point I feel this is really a special treat watch only available at retail for very good customers or gray market scalpers (they pay a lot of money too).I guess the reality of this sinking in kind of sucks but then again this is a first world problem and i should just get over it and look at something else....besides I have my Batman and other trinkets to occupy the space on my wrist:)I do look f
