Watches NEWS
A Week On The Wrist: The Zenith El Primero Reference A3817
If you have been following HODINKEE, you might agree with us that Zenith is a manufacturer that produces some of the more value-for-money watches these days. There are few totally in-house chronograph movements that can be had for just around $10,000, and which come in such a variety of dial and case designs ranging from sporty, to totally classic, to something in-between. Most modern watch collectors would probably also recognize the distinctive tri-color dial, especially with the recent lineup of watches such as the Zenith El Primero 36,000 VPH or El Primero Original 1969. And as most of you might know, the tri-colored dial originates from the Zenith El Primero ref A386, a watch produced in 1969 with the (arguably) first high-beat automatic chronograph. 1 OF 15 But did you know that the reference A386 was not the only watch in the El-Primero family with the tri-color dial? There was one other, less well known cousin to the ref A386, which has a more interestingly design
Unscientific Survey
Well we had a thread recently about AP and accuracy. I've monitored my three AP's over the last two weeks and I've been surprised. All were worn in regular rotation and left on a Wolf 3 watch winder when not on my wrist. Not counting seconds, all were spot on the correct minute. So much for a pattern of poor accuracy. Let's have a poll.

Rubber for a Smurf
Just like the title says....but no, not any pictures of an actual cartoon smurf and.....so I have picked up an Everest strap, blue in color just to change things up a little. Most of my inspiration came from our one and only Chad! So here are some pics of a smurf 116619 with a blue Everest rubber strap. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The argument for one watch
This probably won't be a popular opinion, but I'm struggling with having just one Rolex. I've had up to three at a time, but am down to a 114060. It's special to me. I look at it, and the symmetry makes me happy. I also where it 24/7. In some way, it has memories to times with my kids. I could buy almost any other Rolex. It's not a matter of money. I'm again eying a GMT, but does that diminish or dilute what I've had thus far? In some ways, yes.
