Watch Case Materials Explained: Ceramic
Contributed by ?lker ?zcan, who is a professional Materials Engineer and owns a small R&D company (ndsgnwatches-dealer).In this article on watch case materials, we have decided to write about ceramics. Ceramics are possibly the least understood of the materials used in watches. Many watchmakers are nowadays using ceramics for their watch cases C which gained popularity with Rado. Now Chanel, Hublot, Omega, IWC, and many others produce watches with ceramic cases in full or in part.Materials are generally classified as Metals, Polymers, Ceramics, and Composites. Sometimes foams, etcare added but these four classes are universally accepted. So ceramics are one of the three main classes, where composites are mixtures of these three.Ceramics are essentially inorganic solids (organic ones are polymers) that are also not metals. VIDEO: That Time A. Lange & S?hne's Director Of Products Explained The Zeitwerk Minute Repea
The Zeitwerk Minute Repeater – Lange's first chiming watch under $2,000,000 – is easily one of the most buzzed about watches of the year. We introduced you the thoughtful taking on the repeater in January of this year here. Now that the watch is hitting stores, Lange has produced a fun look at this dream watch thanks to Tony de Haas, head of product development – who also happens to play a mean set of drums. Watch above for more on this great watch. Omega Speedmaster Pro 3572.50 - The Eagle has Landed
I sold my 3570.50 about 6 months ago and was missing it. I think the Speedmaster is one of the handful of watches that every collector needs to have in his collection. Like the Submariner, it is timeless. When the opportunity came up to acquire another one, it just happened to be the discontinued 3572.50. I believe it was around 2002 that Omega discontinued the 3572 in favor of the 3573 (also known as the sapphire-sandwich). The changes were the introduction of the sapphire crystal instead of hesalite and also the inscription on the caseback that was changed from First Watch on the Moon to First and Only Watch on the Moon. One thing I have noticed is that the 3572 has a bracelet that tapers to the clasp, and the clasp doesn't have the push-button release like the newer Speedmasters and Seamasters. Is this correct?Anyways, I took some quick pics...picasaweb.google/zirotti/SpeedmasterPro#
Help finding pre-owned PPs while in NY.
I am looking to make my first PP purchase and would like the opportunity to view and try on some models while visiting New York in the next few weeks. Any advice on the best retailers I should visit where I might find a nice selection of pre-owned Patek's (entry and mid level models...not the historic and/or 6 figure variety unfortunately!)? We will be staying in the Rockefeller Center area of town. Thanks in advance.
