MB&F HM5 Carbon vs AP RB II Ti
Hi ! Long time lurker here. Currently I am considering to buy either one of MB&F HM5 Carbon or the AP RB II Ti. I have tried the MB&F HM5 albeit in rose gold and it is simply a stunning piece and sits on my wrist perfectly. However, AP RB II Ti is one of the most iconic ROO out there. What do you guys think ?MB&F HM5 Carbon Pros:About 5-7k cheaper than RB IIMore Limited piece (66 pieces)UniqueI love MB&F and appreciate what Max has doneConsNot a watch in traditional senseAfraid value does not hold as wellI must wait at least a month to get itHarder to service in my areaPicsAP RB II Ti ProsOne of the most iconic ROOI love the bulky and intimidating lookHolds value very well since it is discontinuedEasier servicingConsNon-casebackPretty oldI already have AP ROO Black/Red
Tools of the trade - working in miniature
I guess like most TRF members I'm astounded by the skills and patience needed to design, make and repair PP movements. I've always loved working on first push bikes, then later motorbikes and finally cars and to this day still treasure my Snap-On toolbox and tools. But there us something about the size of the parts in a mechanical watch that astounds me - parts are so small that they are barely visible even through a glass and the care needed at every stage is simply beyond anything I can imagine ever being able to undertake.Simple strap and bracelet changes/adjustments are about my limit (and then not on my PP's). Even then the tools needed are miniature.Interested to hear the level other TRF's have gone to to learn more - perhaps even working on their own pieces and the specialist tools they use?Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Thoughts on 5980
So I own this watch. Really like the watch. But it's a hair small on me. I'm 6'4. And the 40mm size is a tad small. Thought about trading it in but where do you think the future values of this piece are going? Is it still desirable on the secondary market or has the 5990 or other nautilus pieces become more popular?Would appreciate your thoughts.
Finally the 5167a is mine
Yesterday I became the proud owner of this wonderful watch. I have owned Rolexes over the years and currently have the SD4k and SS Daytona. Both great pieces, but I always found myself looking at the Patek forum and pictures/threads of the 5167a and 5711 in particular and I have always been drawn to the Aquanaut- preferring it due to its tropical strap and more understated, casual/sporty look. I tried one on a year ago at a Patek event and loved it, but didn't get one at that stage as I was concerned about the 'durability' in terms of scratches etc that I thought might be an issue for me as I like my watches as mint as possible (bit OCD). However I have never been able to get the 5167 out of my mind and more recently been feeling the SD and Daytona a bit on the flash side (I went into a shop the other day and the young salesman called out - is that a Rolex your wearing Sir?). Having been to London recently and seeing so many Rolexes, I found myself more attracted to the understated, un
