Initial Impression: Bulova 96A102 Commemorative Hack Watch
I was drawn to the Bulova 96A102 for a few reasons: It has a seconds subdial, it can be found reliably for under $100 and its looks, though military, are from a very different era and it stands out amongst the current crop of military inspired watches. Turns out that this watch is a reissue of the hack watch that Bulova made for the US armed forces during World War 2. For those who don't know, a hack watch is a mechanical watch where the seconds hand can be stopped for exact setting of time, which is very necessary for synchronizing soldiers. This reissue is a quartz movement, so the second stops as well, but it is technically not a hack movement. Regardless, the history of this watch adds authenticity to its design, and makes it a more interesting piece. So far, I find the watch to be a great purchase. It is well built, but on the lighter side, making it very comfortable to wear, especially in the warm weather. It measures 40 x 11mm with a lug width of 20mm, so it is a nice medium size
Incoming ......... first in 2014
Just acquired this new model of 2014. It is a very eye catching Navy. I was debating between the Black and this Navy while I was at my local AD yesterday. My eye was caught when this Navy first came out in SIHH 2014 and by chance, I bumped with this beauty. I was told that the new models won't be available until June this year. The Black also has a very sharp match between black and red. The hornback strap with red stitch is also very nice. The Navy has a very beautiful royal-blue dial contrasting with orange hands. The blue rubber strap matches perfectly with the dial. The strap with the tang buckle is also very comfortable to wear. The rubber material seems softer than that of my Diver, hence even better. The difference in price tag between the Black and the Navy is just USD380, therefore, whichever one I go for, there is no significant concern. At the end, the Navy wins over the Black because the Navy is the first one that caught my eyes when it was released and I have some black
Any Love for Seamaster 120M?
Hello,I bought this watch new back in 2000. It's a 2311.81, blue dial with 18c bezel and links. It has been may daily ever since.Anyway, I just bought a new watch and I'm not a collector. I just haven't decided whether to sell it or not.I thought it would be easy to let it go.Any thoughts? Thanks,TW
5970 article in Patek Magazine
Good morning gents,If you get a chance check out pg 18/19 of the Spring addition of the Patek Magazine, there's a fantastic write up on the 5970 that a lot of you will find interesting. I think it's also accessible through the owners section of the Patek website. It is my favourite reference of any watch and I feel unbelievably fortunate to own one.Have a good weekend everyone. I for one am hoping for a sub redesign...
.... at Basel 2019 or perhaps 2020. Slimmer lugs, thinner case and new movement please - that would be the cherry on top. I've owned 4 maxi case references, including PM, and all of them were flipped at some point PURELY due to how the square case looked on my 7 wrist. It always just looked like the watch was wearing me, as opposed to me wearing the watch. And it was frustrating to finally realise it, since they're all great watches. For now DJ41 and a soon to be added Tudor Blackbay 58 will keep me satisfied. Anyone else wishing for newer Rolex sport watches closer in dimensions to the 5-digit references of yesteryear?
