IWC Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph Watch
Finally a boat themed watch that people will be comfortable using on a boat. Since its inception long ago, the IWC Portuguese watch was meant as a nautical companion. As its popularity and luxury level grew, so did people's reluctance to subject their beautiful IWC Portuguese watches to the elements. For for 2010 IWC has released a more sporty, but no less luxurious form of the Portuguese watch known and the Yacht Club Chronograph. It is instantly recognizable as a Portuguese but clearly has a nice sporty elegance to it. Not aggressive in anyway, but tastefully functional - exactly the reason people prefer Portuguese watches. Differences between the standard Portuguese watches and the Yacht Club are subtle, but apparently. Notably are the colorations on the dial, the luminant on the hands, and of course the rubber straps. The case has also been beefed up a bit and there are now crown guards and redesigned chronograph pushers. Case size is 45.4mm wide (about 14.5mm?thick)?and it is wate
Interview: We Ask Audemars Piguet Historian Michael Friedman To Walk Us Through The Best Vintage AP's For Sale In Geneva
If there is one sub-sect of vintage watches that I believe is about to experience a renaissance of sorts, it's vintage Audemars Piguet. For years, I have admired the subtle elegance and incredible design found in early 20th century AP's. I believe them to be some of the most beautiful watches ever made, and based on our visit inside the vault of AP last summer, you guys agreed. There is simply so much to love in this category, and yet we simply don't hear much about it. Sure, there are way, way fewer vintage AP watches out there than any Patek, as we've mentioned, and that just makes them that much more appealing. This season, there are several fantastic vintage AP's coming up for sale, and because this manufacture is one of the few who has a publicly available historical expert, we thought it would be great to get brand historian Michael Friedman's own take on the vintage AP's coming up this weekend and next week in Geneva. That is what you'll find below
Feeling Lost - Potentially Distraught
Truly a first world problem thread title... lamenting over a watch purchase, but I digress...Background: 3 years ago, within a month, I got married, started my own consulting firm, got sued by my ex boss, and turned 30. My wife and I sacrificed everything financially, physically, and emotionally throughout my startup. Moving in with the parents, eating canned meat, and working a second job at night for a year was all worth it as I beat the lawsuit, stayed married, and the business has become a tremendous success. (Unfortunately I didn't stay 30). I suppose I've given this detailed background because while my wife and I are now able to live a substantially greater lifestyle, I'm still very much in touch with how we got here. I don't have to shop on price anymore, but I have always, and still do, shop on value. I make very deliberate buying decisions for the long term - buy once cry once. On top of this I'm a very sentimental person, so it is unlikely that I would ever sell or trade som
New AP Diver release
Hey all - Happy Holidays,I'm in the market for an AP Diver in steel. I've been eyeing this piece for a while and went yesterday to try it on. The dealer mentioned that he received a list from AP with a new reference for a diver model supposed to be released soon. He doesn't know when, perhaps at SIHH, or perhaps later. The reference listed was investigated by him and it seems the information he got back mention the new steel diver will have the open case back with a modification in the movement and slightly different seals for the crown and bezel crown.Has anyone got any more detailed information about this or have heard of this rumor before? I'm not sure if the AD was trying to steer me to a different model or was simply being frank. Thanks in advance...
Incoming! 16610LV
I thought I had the perfect SS trio:116500 white116610 LV116710 BLNRBut I found a one owner 16610LV with box/papers in mint condition and it kept calling my name. Years ago I owned a 16610Ln and it never really sang to me. But the LV with the Maxi dial really looks amazing. Also years later and having owned many many 6-digit references the simplicity of the 5-digit really is refreshing. I think my Hulk may have some competition with its new brother.
