A Brief History Of Ladies' Complicated Watches: Old Technology, New Innovations
“Is that a moon-phase?”After the sold-out New York City premiere of David Armstrong’s documentary The Watchmaker’s Apprentice, a group of watch enthusiasts gathered at Distilled in TriBeCa. A fellow collector grabbed my wrist. She turned it around to look at the dial of my watch.“I thought you were wearing a moon-phase,” she said.I was not. It was a 1949 Bulova Walton, with a small seconds subsidiary dial at 6 o’clock, easily mistaken for a moon-phase in the low light of the bar. Which Royal Oak?
Hi guysFor those of you who read the Rolex section on this forum, you may have seen that my wife has endorsed the purchase of a Royal Oak and a Nautilus, and we now have a three year plan to achieve this. The plan is as follows:1.Buy a Royal Oak for me which will occasionally be worn by my wife2.Buy a Nautilus for me and give the Royal Oak to my wife (to be worn by me occasionally)I currently have a Sea Dweller as my daily wearer and this will stay in the collection. My wife has a blue faced Rolex Perpetual which will continue to be her main daily. It's also worth noting that a watch that fits me perfectly is a touch loose on my wife, which is how she likes to wear her watches, so my skinny wrists (c.6.5 ) are finally doing me a favour!I have 9 months to give this proper consideration (as need to save) and will try on various watches, but keen to get the party started and would appreciate the view of anyone who has been on the same journey. The questions on my mind right now are:1.Alth
Pulled the trigger!
After lurking in this part of the forum for a while I decided to get a Speedy Pro as soon as possible. The heritage of this model makes it a must for any enthusiast and after securing a deal on the second hand market and waiting 5 weeks for a polish and replacement crystal here it is Couldn't be happier, I think this completes my collection (16610LV, 16660, Breitling Crosswind Racing) and I doubt I'll be making any more purchases (for a while at least)!
