What It's Like To Make A Watch
Sitting on the watchmaker's bench, two things became apparent; that finger condoms (cots) choke the blood out of my fingers and looking through a loupe with just one eye gives you no depth perception when you need it most. For several days I took instruction from a master watchmaker while I and an watches-dealer reader were guests of Frederique Constant in Geneva putting together our first watch movement. It was a thrilling experience, and one that few people will ever receive, even if they pay for it. Unless they go to a watch making school that is.Technical Director and watchmaker Pim Koeslag is Dutch, and so is Peter Stas, who is the founder of Frederique Constant (with his wife Aletta). Sub vs sd43?
Out of curiosity why sub vs sd43? Both diving and depth rated beyond where anyone would dive to. Is one too big or too small depending upon your preference? Sd43 has new movement. Which would you buy and why? If you already have one which did you get and why? And for that matter let’s throw the dssd into the mix. Is that one just too big? Thanks
Another great heirloom story
So my father surprised me yesterday. I had asked if he still had my Grandfathers Rolex as I wanted to see it and perhaps share photos with you other Rolex nerds. Well he finally found it and long story short it has passed down one more generation. I don't know anything about it aside from my Grandfather was gifted it after he finished building the main hospital in Valetta, Malta in the 1950's If any of you know what model it is and value please chime in. Also i would like to have the movement checked out. It does run, after a couple turns of the crown but if the moment isn't A ok i don't want to cause damage.
